Slaves vs hired help?

I undestand, when did a misstake you get slave rebel in your camp after ca 30 days.
So slaves vs hired staff

You get no rewards and just injuries from the slave mutiny battle. They all have conquistador gear and skills too. And since Hispanola can be pretty tough before you get some leveled followers and gear it's a battle best avoided.

Do the hired help cost per month or one time fee?

Only once. And you never feed them. So they are pretty much slaves when you think about it ;)

I've seen a few references to their loyalty in some events as well; I think there's some small other benefits to having hired help over slaves.

Looks like it's well worth the expense... though I don't know how the XP rewards compare. If the mutiny pays off more XP than whatever bonuses you get from successfully completing other events in which hired help is involved, it might be worth taking the slaves.

Never know which choices are optimal without gathering a lot of data...
