This game is hard... Any recommended guides?
I'm really learning this game as I go along and getting my butt kicked in a lot of the battles. Quite different from many of the games with tactical-like battles that I'm used to. Does anyone know of any guides or walkthroughs they can recommend? - Shakedaddy

Just soldier it up. Level them all to men at arms so they get to stun things. Don't use scholars in battles. Don't use low level hunters in battles.

Thank for your advice. I actually have a lot of soldiers in my party but I kind of regret not getting more of the other classes, I guess when I use soldiers I should just focus on using their melee attacks, right? Other than soldiers, what class should I also use in battles?

Also, sorry if this question was answered in the tutorial, but how much experience do I need before I can level up characters and get skillpoints, etc?

You can see the XP requirement by hovering over the rank icons in the follower management screen. As for classes in battle, hunters become very good at veteran rank, imho (some would disagree though. I think it depends on playstyle), but scouts are the obvious other choice. The native classes are also very good.

Yeah, once you figure out how to use Scouts, they become kinda indispensable. They're a highly mobile DPS class, and particularly at Man-At-Arms rank when they gain Sneak, you can pair them up with a soldier each and almost every attack you make will be a flanking strike.

There's a pretty good starter guide over on the GOG forums:
