What is the current state of this game?
I've had my eye on this one for a while, but money is tight, so I try to be careful with my purchases. I watched some video reviews of the game early on, and the general consensus seemed to be that the game was decently fun, but had some major issues that needed tweaking. Now that it has been a few months, and seeing as the game is currently on sale, I am considering getting it. My question is, from those who have been playing it since launch, how much has it improved?

Agreed, I am also curious.

The biggest issue that I remember, btw, is the camera distance, which from the video reviews (And the comments by said reviewers) was incredibly close. Has this been tweaked at all?

I don't see anything in doing a seach, except for a camera panning problem that seems to have been solved.

If you mean bugs or whatever, it's fine. If you think you'd enjoy the game then buy it.

That's for balance reasons, there's no fog. So your camera is your LOS. I can't see how this would be an issue to stop someone from buying a game. It's not actually that close though. Maybe in an earlier build it was locked closer.

Yeah we increased the max zoom distance for the camera in one of the first patches.

Excellent! I am fine with the idea of the camera serving as the LOS, as my friend whose name I am incapable of spelling indicated, but it just seemed a bit too close from those reviews. Glad to hear this has been tweaked! :)

To be quite honest, the camera is still probably our most problematic feature, and increasing the zoom distance was kind of a hacky solution. Unfortunately, fixing it completely would require some sort of huge redesign of the way the overland travel works, barring some miraculous revelation about how to make 3D fog of war work properly in Unity. So... the way it is now, it's not great, but it's okay, and it's not getting any better until the sequel.

That's fine. I understand y'all are an indie company and were working on a small budget (the reviews I've read talking about how great this game is, despite the small budget, is impressive). I'm not asking for a perfect game, just one that I would be able to find playable. The increased camera distance should help. Besides, my main interest is in a good story. And if your story really is as good as the Steam reviews claim it to be, then I'm sure whatever imperfections remain in the game will be easily forgivable. :)

The story is really good and actually IS (unlike many larger games) branching. It actually feels like choosing certain actions have an impact if not partially because of the moral system and your many companions conflicting views.

The camera problem is negligible. The gameplay+writing+music more than make up for it.

Yeah, its a great game to check out. I got into a bit of roleplaying, and I love the art design.

The combat is so so, but its fun and its not obviously broken. It gets the job done, mostly

I bought it for the not often used in video games subject material + turn based aspect with no hesitation. If the bugs ain't game ending them I'm okay with it.

Can you elaborate this? What sequel?

Personally I'd like to see a Peru DLC for Expeditions:Conquistador.

So far the sequal is unannounced. Right now, we're just letting people know we'll return to the Expeditions series after Clandestine, you'll have to live in tantalizing angony until such a time where we announce it :P

It is probably too late for input on the subject material, but I'd love it if you did a Portuguese one next. Brazil, Africa, or India would all make perfect arenas for a game like this. And, much as I love the history of the Conquistadors, I've always had a special place in my heart for the Portuguese explorers. :)
