There is no perfectly aligned party. You'll always have at least a couple of people pissed of at your choice.

As long as you're doing well in the game I don't think morale matters that much.

Not completely correct. If you choose a few attributes you don't want, there are enough options to get a relatively like-minded team. For instance, you can have a team without anyone being pious, which is a great advantage.

If you make your selection well, you can also have only one or two narcissistic people and then it works out.

To the OP: Don't invite anyone who is racist, courageous or aggressive and you have your diplomatic team. Also don't bring any pious people, they will lose morale when you are friendly to any native with another religion.

Adventurous doesn't seem to pose any problems, so you can ignore that one for the most part. Also, get people who are cautious, it's not exactly the same but they sometimes get morale when you avoid combat or choose tactical combat entrances. You can easily do with one or two persons who are narcissistic, as long as you intend them to be high ranking members.

I don't see why everybody hates pious....pious is the only farmable loyalty you can get in this game.

It´s anti-friendly in the game though. If you are friendly to the infidels then the pious men and women will dislike you.

...which means that a few traders cannot be traded with and that you'd have to fight a few extra fights. Because of this, actions that usually support pious characters will result in morale loss for open-minded, peaceful and sometimes cautious followers. It simply doesn't pay off, unless you have a complete pious troop (with the majority being aggressive).

you're confusing pious with racist. Pious only affects things having to do with religion. it has nothing to do with trading and/or communicating with natives. They won't care if you accept natives into the group.

Really? Oh. In the beginning there was one quest I recall, though. You had to go to a bunch of natives and scare them away / kill them. There was a diplomatic solution, but since they were involved in some sort of ritual my religious follower lost morale for that. So, things of that nature can easily go hand in hand when the natives are also (usually) involved with a non-catholic religion.

Yeah, Pious DOES conflict with open-minded, because many of the diplomatic choices have you working with the primitive pagans closely enough that it sets the god-fearing subordinates off.

Not always. In fact...mostly not. Only sometimes. Incidently their are at least 2 (maybe more but I can't remember them right now) companions that have both pious and open minded.

Yes, some characteristics of characters really contradict each other in funny ways. One character for instance has the racist, peaceful and courageous traits at the same time. Then when you avoid a fight with natives, they lose 1 point of moral for being racist because you didn't attack the natives, gain 1 point of morale for not attacking because they are peaceful and last but not least lose 1 point of morale again because you were so cowardly to run from the enemy. Quite hilarious.
