Spike Traps
I am having a hard time beating the final battle at San Domingo so I roamed around the island looking for resources. I want to build Spike Traps but I don't have the skill to do so. I followed a YouTube video that showed the location where to buy some; I had been to that village earlier but I did not buy any; and now when I returned, it is not offered any more. Does this mean I can never buy or make Spike Traps? Is there another solution in getting Spike Traps.

Your scholar can learn how to build Spike Traps.

Thanks for your reply. How does he do this; that is, learn how to build Spike Traps? It is not listed in the Construction menu.

Your scholar can invent thing and he can build a lot of things like obstacles, cannonballs etc. You will find it/learn it in Mexico.

Thanks again for your reply. Let me understand this: At this time (because I passed up the opportunity to buy Spike Traps) the scholar cannot learn the Spike Traps while he is in Hispanola, but until he reaches Mexico?

There are some things your scholar have to invent. For other thing you will have to find a teacher or a "recipe". The ability to build Spike Traps is not connected with the buying of some traps in Hispanola (if I remember correctly).

On YouTube the commentator purchased a Spike Trap and the skill became available for anyone with Tinkering skill to build. On the other hand, you suggest that it may be learned. I do not know how to learn a skill. I know the game has been out for more than 3 years, but do you remember how to learn a skill?

There are some events wich allow you to learn the ability to build an object. There are a lot of towns in Mexico I think there is a trader who will sell you some traps (and the ability to build some). By the way I finished the game in 2014.

Found this for you:

Thanks again for your input. I still have to get to Mexico...

No, you don't have to go to Mexico. Go to Higüey Village, eastern point of Hispaniola. Then buy a Spike Trap there, and your Scholar will learn how to build them.

Higüey Village is not the village I saw on YouTube. However, in my game Higüey Village is already destroyed. No inhabitants, no trade, no Spike Traps.

It looks like I have to keep on trying to beat the Battle for San Domingo.

When first i get there, i bought the spike trap and my scholar learned that there, but if you didnt you will get the knowledge when you reach mexico

Yes... I was hoping that it doesn't come to that.

The reason why Higuey village is destroyed is because you got there too late. If you travel east of San Tiago along the coast right after your character discovers they've been conned by Leandra, the road will eventually loop back to the village, which will still be intact. Warning: there will be a battle along the way (Flotsam quest)

For the first battle at the palace. Have 3 of your soldiers stand in the 3 open spots at the pillars. Have your two clerics run back and forth healing as needed. Wait out the ten turns. At the dock battle, do NOT go to them. Wait for them to come to you and gang up on one at a time while keeping your healers back out of danger.

Thank you both! I did not realize that I had to immediately go after Leandra. And I've never thought about the stalling tactic--a good plan and I do have two medical personnel.

Anyway, after a couple reloads I was successful in defending San Domingo (without the use of Spike Traps).

For those who had stated about going to Mexico to learn/buy Spike Traps, this is indeed the case. Again, thank you all.
