difficulty in Knockout is well balanced for me. Beat it on Standard after 3-4 tries. So, not too easy and not too hard, and as there are harder modes there is still a lot to do.
Haven't played a lot of those other leagues yet, but those first matches there were challenging and good.

Ouch, that sounds very exploitable devs.
I admit, betting everything you have on yourself and winning the first match is a bit risky and I did not manage to win on my first try, but it is possible and worked for me in 1 out of 4 attempts. I now have three golden and two purple robots and they are so much better then everything my opponents have (after 10 or so matches).
So I think the difficulty is okay per default (as in: the first macthes), but considering gambling and earning money that way, matches become too easy as you just get more money and superior robots.
Obviously, everything changes if you lose your first match and all the money you bet, but I haven't played that out.
Additionally it's a bit easy as the AI falls for the same trick more then once. Once you found a plan that works (e.g. for offense), you can play that plan during a whole match. Like doing the same offense-plan twice and the AI will always do the same (and fail). I know that a learning AI would be rather hard to implement, but the ability to use that makes it easier for the player.
Also, as mentioned above, you can use the same trick against the AI multiple times. But that won't be easy to change.
Another feature I would like is looking up the results of past matches, e.g. when clicking on a listed team.
Otherwise I quite enjoy playing it and was positively supprised how the update turned out.
Continue your good work :)
A solid 8.5/10 imo.
Just need to see my schedule in league and some player/team stats and i can see me obsessing over this game for a long time to come.
I had exactly the same situation. It became too easy by week 8 or something. It's a shame your AI opponents don't upgrade their bots.
Knockout seems to give me a healthy challenge though.
Knockout, however, is an entirely different story. Standard Knockout starts out easy, but even then, while it's easy to win, it's not always easy to win with enough of a margin that you get good bots to replace your chump team.
By the time you get to your by week, you basically need to have trounced everyone you've come up against if you want to be competitive with the teams that follow; the opponents all go from similar chumpery to 8+ green (not counting release) with no red stats. If you're still using blues and greens at this point, you're just going to get stomped; or, at least, the chances of your getting stomped severely increase. Even then, at this point, the chances of beating one of these teams so soundly that you get access to gold robots to continue to improve your roster for the finals is so small. At that point, it's not about skill; it's about luck.
I have yet to beat Standard Knockout with the chump starting team. I did take my champ team from a normal season in to see if they made a difference; they did. It was startling.
Game length may help out here. As it is, with Knockout, if you make a single mistake, that's it; game over, in both the short and long run. That's all it takes for the opponent with their superior bots to get into a scoring position that will be nigh unrecoverable.
I just started a randomized league and played a few games. Got some crummy bots and not great upgrades in my first few matches, but I'm really enjoying the difficulty for right now, and I like not knowing the teams I'm betting on, or against. This will probably be the mode I play the most in the future now that I've finished the...uh..."story"; it feels the most like a real "league".
