This tank/warplane simulator is definitely one of the best out there and, without a doubt, I can say that I'm in love with it. Gaijin Entertainment has certainly beaten its Wargaming counterpart - World of Tanks - with this simulator and I will tell you exactly why.
I - HEALTH SYSTEM
There is no such thing in this game. You don't see no health bar that shows you how much damage you've taken or can still take, what you do see, however, is your tank's status. You can clearly see each part of your tank, like the tracks, suspension, engine, fuel tank, ammunition, turret and individual crewmembers. There is no way to destroy a tank just by shooting its hull continuously in areas you can penetrate (like in World of Tanks), but you can effectively disable a tank by shooting its engine, fuel tank, ammo rack or by knocking out its crew. The last option really pisses people off for a reason.
Same goes for air battles. Your plane can get knocked out when it gets damaged just enough that it can't stay airborne, or when its wings are clipped entirely off. Or the pilot is killed.
II - PROGRESSION
While progression can be quite slow, it's generally fun and more rewarding than in World of Tanks. Why? Because it simply has a lot of things attached to it that are worth the grind! Namely, the more you earn experience, the more you can use it to upgrade your tank's modules, like, add fire extinguishers (which are free), add APCR rounds (More penetration at the cost of damage, also free), improve gun stability or your tank's turn rate which is a lot of fun. Sure, progression speed is based on how many kills you can rack up per match, or how good you perform (assists count too, and they count for a lot), but in general, it's fun and rewarding.
III - CUSTOMIZATION
Customizing your armored fighting vehicle is free! You don't have to pay real money to attach a flag or a symbol, or some text to your vehicle, but you do have a limitation. You can attach two things at the same time, while, if you pay, you can attach four things on your vehicle. Customization options include camoflage, world flags, numbers, sentences that tankers used to write on their tanks back in WWII and a lot more. To unlock certain pieces to paint on your tank, you need to complete a few challenges. When you complete those challenges, you're free to paint on that text or symbol that you've wanted to attach for a long time!
Note, this is just a small review for the game and it's prone to editing, but overall, I recommend this game to EVERYONE who wants a good World War II tank simulator. Forget about World of Tanks and its grind and unfairness, War Thunder is the best WWII sim ever and for now, the best tank sim (Until Armored Warfare appears, anyway).
