As of now, this is a very simple game, but it's really fun. TL;DR at the bottom.
Players have only two guns for different ranges of engagement (I find this is very balanced and works well, but they'll probably add more guns in the future). You have infinite ammo reserves, and your weapons have toggleable flashlights, quick attach suppressors, and laser aiming modules. Weapons are reasonably accurate regardless of aiming down sights.
I played Survival mode, and I was really pleased with the emergent gameplay.
In Survival, you and your co-op partners are put into a large urban/indoor area with objectives strewn around it. You just have to reach each objective to win. Each objective you reach will change the lighting and/or weather of the area, reducing or increasing visibility indoors or outdoors. Objectives can be reached in any order. Killed players can be revived immediately with the press of a button by a teammate.
The main component of the gameplay is a steady flow of hostile combat training robots into the area. There are two kinds of robots: melee robots that sprint (really fast), and robots that use guns. Both types can kill you in 1-2 hits. You will usually die before you can react, so you have to listen for them and make sure you see them first. Robots will immediately see and shoot at anyone standing or emitting a source of light, such as a flashlight or light source in the environment. Good players will shoot out lights and use their flashlight sparingly in this mode. The gamemode encourages very tactical movement. Good players will practice sticking together, covering multiple angles, avoiding shooting at the same enemy, timing reloads properly, and entering new areas and rooms sensibly.
The graphics are clean and simple, but are likely to be changed as development continues. There is heavy emphasis on atmosphere and lighting that really lends itself to the game, sometimes things get kinda spooky.
The sound design of the game is impressive as it is; most of a player's information on how to proceed through an area will be from sounds far, near, muffled through walls, or in the same room.
My only technical complaints about the game are the framerate instability and slightly high latency overall; the game is totally playable for me. The game is also a long time in development, it's a crowd-funded game before crowd-funded games were cool. It would be a great shame if the game was not finished. The core gameplay fundamentals are very solid and would probably be called "hard but fair" by a lot of people. It's certainly impressive by modern game's weak standards. The devs cite strong influences for this game: Half-Life, Rainbow Six 3, and System Shock 2. Each one of these influences shows. If the devs stick to their principles, this game can be a nice little pinprick of light in the darkness of recent FPS fare.
TL;DR: I recommend trying this game, even in its current state. It's good challenging fun with friends, and despite its simplicity the gameplay does not get old quickly, which is very promising.
