I bought the spearhead edition back when this first came out. I was young and really believed in small dev teams putting together a game they truely wanted to make.
Well it's been 4.5 years later and I still can't play the game I bought. I've played it mostly on an alternate steam account and it's not a bad game. I can't recall any crashes or game breaking bugs. The shooting is good and all the features that I've found in the game seem to work. I say found because the dev team still releases trailers and screenshots with mechs and shark monsters. THAT was the game I thought I bought 4 .5 years ago. I'm not sure if those features are hidden/locked or something else entirely but I haven't been able to enjoy them.
At the end of the day this is not a broken game. It works! It just isn't supremely entertaining at this point. I still believe the developer wants to finish this game despite the sparsity of updates. That being said I think they should overhaul their list of intended features and try to complete this game as a fun shooter without trying to make it into Star Citizen or something. It would be better to have a small finished game that is good than a medium or larger game that is left unfinished.
In its current state I can't recommend purchasing it though. Not sure how the devs are going to progress without cash inflow but they'll have to figure it out I suppose.
A game I want so badly to succeed. The gunplay scratches so many itches that I've yet to find another game scratch, and the sense of presence in the world they tout is real.
The story of Interstellar Marines's fall and slow climb from the pit is, in my opinion, a sad one. One that has been told by others far better than I could tell it. It went down to the point that only one Dev was left on the project, and he only kept working on it through sheer stubborn force of will for what was, and is, a passion project.
There is a reason this game has held on to a small, but dedicated community. I encourage you to give it a try. It's only 10$ at this time, and while it lacks many features, it has extremely satisfying gunplay and the basis for very interesting mechanics.
There is a team of developers working on the game, small as it is, and it is starting it's slow ascent from the brink of failure. I urge you to give it a try, and perhaps throw in your support for this game. I've seen few games fall so far, and still managed to claw back from the pit, fighting tooth and nail to press on. It's a fighter, as are the small team of devs, and it is certainly worth my support.
Been following it since the beggining, The devevlopment process is slow, yes, but I am curious if the project will be picked by an investor so it could reach it's full potential. Can't recommend it much atm, but I wish the best to the developers, the gam mechanics are intuitive and not that hard to grasp.
The game essentially died for quite some time. Then out of nowhere small updates have started coming. The controls are smooth and the concept is there but the game isn't worth it until a strong single player campaign is created. Then multiplayer can be revived (all the online lobbies are empty).
