The game also boasts a single player story line and a mission system, which also has its own victory condition (in the game set up you choose this mode, or having the council). You do missions in the game that pushes a story forward, similiar to a campaign, but by still being a 4X open world game.
The game will be single player focused on release. MP is only on the table for post release, so if SP is what you want, this game will have you covered.
Note: Notice how I say, will. The game is early access and an Alpha. Some features are still missing, the AI needs more love, the odd bugs (the game is very stable for an alpha), and balancing is needed. The core mechanic is in, but it need to be polished. Think of it as a pre-order where they let you play the game as it develops. This also means you will have in complete game, so it is up to you to decide if you want to support an indie dev and play the game unfinished.
Two things to consider, the price will go up as the game gets into later stages (so getting it now is at a discount). You are buying the final version, not just the Alpha, so when the game is released officially, you get that with your Early Access purchase (as I said, it is more like a pre-order where you can play the game as it is made).
On the flip side, it still need to have work done to it, so what you will play now is not a finished product (only later it will be). So you have to decide for yourself if you want to opt-in now, or if you want to wait till later when the game is more complete.
A special thank you to Gill for taking the time to post a very detailed reply. I bought the game and am enjoying is thus far.
Glad you are enjoying the game Freygea!
