Should I buy this game?
I am a huge fan of the 4x genre. Games like Sword of the Stars II and Distant Worlds are what I look for when playing 4x games. Is it any good?

it has the potential (remember still in Alpha development) too be a great game, at the moment its pretty much fully functioning but somewhat lacking in polish and needs IMO a lot more depth in some areas. I purchased it, I have played about 30 hours so far, and I am more than happy with my investment... I just hope it that as the game goes into beta and then to final release that it fullfills its full potential. Now dont get me wrong I like the game as it is, but I would LOVE the game with this refinement/added depth...

It is also the first game I have seen in a Long Long time that has a decent combat system, its fully turn based, broken down into a cycle of rounds, so much better than other games like this currently out that are more cinematic realtime combat....

I cannot tell you if you should buy it or not but I do not regret my purchase....

Okay, if it goes on sale I'll download it. Thanks for your help you two.

the price is on sale its going get more pricy as the game advances to beta

I would wait to get this for a bit since it still needs a bit of work. I bought it and its pretty sweet but the tutorials are kind of redundant and the missions are lacking. That being said its pretty fun taking over a universe

This is Steam buddy, everything goes on sale. I've picked up a few Early Access games on sale.

I took a long trip down memory lane with this game. I really enjoyed the basic idea and how it seems true to old favourites like Master of Orion.

I agree that it has potential, but needs a lot of work to create more depth, balancing the economy and AI work.

If you are a nostalgic like me, or just interested in the genre, I would say it's worth picking up just to see what solid old-school game design looks like.
Just remember that you are not buying a deep and fully developed game.

the game seems ok, but i wouldnt bet my money on it. I will wait for something new in 4x to come out.

this game is very good
but its longevity for now is very low
i know that this is only an alpha version but actually i have ended the campaign twice both in classic and normale mode and i do this in 44 hours in which the first 10 i was trying to understand the game ;)
usually on other games i have minimum 50 hours
and i haven't completed them yet
so if you buy it consider that for now it hasn't much longevity

Is there no sandbox mode? Or free play?

The campaign is a sandbox, so to speak. It's got victory (taking over the map), but other than that the game is played out the way you want to.

Horizon is fully sandbox with optional missions (can be disabled but it's usually more fun to leave them on, especially once we add all of them). The missions are not like in a linear campaign, they are open-ended missions you can take on when you find them and if you follow them they add another element to the game, lore, storyline, influence and other benefits. In the full-release there will be missions that can give two additional victory paths as well. The default victory paths currently available are alliance victory, by domination or via diplomacy (council vote win).

Ah, I see.

What makes this game different from all the others that seem to be just like it like the Orion series?
