Ground Combat?
I've been playing a game for a while now and everything is working fine except for ground combat. No matter what I try, I can never seem to get ground combat to work - if all the defenses are down and I press 'invade' or 'redeploy troops', it seems to work initially but then it just takes me back to the space combat mode. I'm not sure if I'm simply doing something wrong, so I wanted to post it here before I reported it as a technical issue.

i am quite sure that is impossible make a ground combact
after you have destroyed the space defenses you can invade the planet but you can't control the troops
all is done with the comparision between the number of soldier you deploy, the levels of the weapon's reseach you have made and similar
after this comparision you can see the result in combact report in which is said if you have won or lost
without doubts could be very fascinating control soldiers in a planet invasion but for now it' s impossible (i think)
i hope the programmers will add this as soon as possible

bringing like 10 cruisers + with troop pods will most of time get you auto win kinda like what borg would do. I have noticed ai isnt colonizing the crappy worlds which makes taking a system easier.

I've never even seen "invading" or "troops". My ships just shot their planets until everybody was dead and that was that. :p

I seem to be having the same problem. The game wont let me invade planets with troops even though the space defences are down. It seems the only way to take a planet is just bombarding and destroying it then re-colonizing.

I agree to that, what was said about ground invasions- they do not take place, you shoot from the spaceat their planets and destroy all. When I wanted to make an invasion - it was not possible because an ingame message said, that I can´t invade so long, so long there is a defence. I would like that the programmers could make the ground invasion properly work. This was one of the features, because I bought this game.

I think the ground invasion works fine. It was confusing though because of the limitations. Here's what you need to make it work:

Destroy any defending ships and planetary defense systems (star bases and planetary missile bases - I'm not sure about shipyards). Mind that you need to have troops in the fleet before you can do that (it says if you have any next to the fleet when hovering over it). Then click the planet you wish to invade.

Now, unless enemy ships remain or new enemy ships arrived at the scene, the order should succeed. Otherwise, order ships to orbit the planet in question until all the defenders are again destroyed. This happened to me on my play-through a couple of times: the enemy built a scout that prevented the invasion.

IMO, a feature should be implemented that invasion would be allowed in this case, the troops deployed only after the space combat has taken place if there are no longer defenders left.

If that does not work, you are probably facing a bug, or some feature I haven't encountered is hindering the order. E.g. it might be (but I wouldn't know) that you can't invade a planet you could not colonize yourself because by the definition your troops could not survive there.

After destroying 16 colonies in a row attempting to destroy the eternal 'defenses,' I'm convinced it is impossible to do anything but destroy a 'defended' colony.

Question, how did you destroy the missile defenses without wiping out the planet? Anytime I bomb the planet to destroy the missile defenses it kills off the entire populace too.

I order the ships to orbit the said planet. They will automatically (if I auto-resolve) shoot the planet's defenses down. I guess I should have made that more clear.

However, my ships weren't equipped with a lot of bombs. I don't know how effective they are. Maybe the ships didn't even use the ones they had because they were only orbiting but I'm unsure of this one.

the only way i get ground combat is by selecting a transport with ground troops and the enemy planet without any defenses. But i cannot invade by manual combat. The only way i managed to get an invansion is make a task force with cruisers or battleships to destroy enemy ships and defenses and several transporters. Then on map select invade and when in manual combat put in AUTO COMBAT. If you defeat enemy ships and defenses you go to screen of invading the planet. But you don´t control anything.
It sucks...

Thank you very much, I´ll try that. Obviously you must auto-resolve the fight. I faced the fact, that I could destroy the missiles one by one -but never the missile battery on ground. They survived as long as there population exists- maybe if you auto-resolve the fight, the correct point of time for the start of the invasion is found. An ingame message, that now Invasions are possible would be e really good thing.

from 3 planets I've attacked - on 1 of them I succeed to destroy missile base before population, so I invaded the planet

that is really hard to do:
1. just bringing assault transports into battle will slow down the battle progress (and you need any transports due very big numbers of defending soldiers even after bombing)
2. you have high chance to destroy population before the missile base, so you can't even predict if you need transports ever
3. economically it doesn't worth so much efforts - simpler bomb and re-colonize

(though if that could bring you a tech then probably worth it, still not sure)

In that way it worked - thanks once more. Additionally I brought a 2nd fleet with the task to bombard the colony. That destroyed obviously the battery (not attack, but bombard) and I could invade the planet with the other fleet the next round. It was not possible to invade in the same tactical round. But at the beginn of the next round the status of the blockaded planet in the sidebar of the screen had changed from "defended" to "troops" or something similiar.

Im trying to finish of the lady civilization ppl´s home world but it says its defended even tho I destroyed everything orbiting it, now its an endless loop of my ships shooting lazors at their planet and always missing, my bombers also shoot lasers instead of their bombs that actually can hurt the planet so I dunno what to do. If I try to manual combat it I cant even target the planet to shoot at it so dunno whats going on. :-/

so you've destroyed their missile base on the planet? hm, may be it is feature pereventing race extintion
