Thinking about picking this up
It looks good, visually, but I am curious about a few things: Replayability and Length. About how many hours, assuming you do side quests and whatnot (if there are any) is this game? Also, I assume the level layouts are static so replaying would be more of a matter of trying out new weapons? Are there varied weapons?

No new weapons as such - You unlock some additional attack powers though.

Think of it as a Metroid game in terms of how the game is laid out (to an extend - A lot less backtracking here).

first time took me about 16-18 hours. Thats great length in my book. Most triple A games only last about 8 these days, but it depends on the genre I guess

I played it through twice, one on nornal and one on hard, collecting everything and doing all the quests. I really recommend you pick this up.
I ended up grabbing it. My sole complaint is that my Logitech Controller does not work with this. ONLY THE 360 CONTROLLERS! ARG!

This is always an interesting suggestion. I've been playing stuff for decades, and pretty much every "indie" game is compared to "Metroid" these days. I have no idea what "Metroid" is, but I guess if I wait a few more games I can probably deduct which features are "metroid"ic :-)

Ok, sometimes games are compared to "Zelda". Or "Gods of War". Means about as much to me as "Metroid".

This gets particulary annoying when reviews just skip stuff because it's like some other game -- except that I don't know every game ever made.

There is potentially a lot of backtracking, but really only if you want to do all the side quests and gather all the side items. As a previous poster mentioned, there aren't really new weapons to pick up, but there are upgrades to your existing weapon. Other equipment is pretty straightforward, though, very similar to other types of RPGs in terms of increases and occasional trade-offs. As for length, I finished in about 20 hours, including grabbing every bit of side stuff. Just a note for those that like completing everything: the "% complete" value displayed doesn't cap at 100%, but goes beyond it when you add in some of the side quests and items.
As for things being like Metroid, it really means that there are things you can't get to in each area until you've gotten some new ability that comes up in later areas. Once you've got those upgrades, you can go back and get some of the hidden stuff in earlier areas. You'll also need those upgrades to progress beyond the points where you get them. Also, the map is very vague, with just representations of how many screens you've visited, but doesn't give details about each screen. This is another "feature" copied from Metroid.
In general, I had a pretty good time playing this one. I'd say it was worth the funds.
Hope that helps.

Well, a couple ways it is similar to Zelda is the map is pretty much exactly how it is like in Zelda. Little boxes, with dots in them, and different colors depending on the type of room. There is backtracking, but how the world map works makes it easier to backtrack.
