Dust: An Elysian Tail
How many references could you relate to and which is your favorite?
I had a great time seeing the references to old classics in the game and felt like starting a disccusion about them. This disccusion will most likely contain spoilers though, so if you want to avoid that, stop reading.

I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of all the references in the game but would love to hear if there's any I've missed somewhere. Also tell us your favorite reference and your story behind it!
Even though the "friends" are just cameos they probably had some reaction aswell so they count too!

The ones I could relate to were:

Wall chicken - a health restoration item from Castlevania on the NES which you would find by breaking walls apart.

Most of the friends except the black/white characters and the purple blob with one eye.

To quote fidget: "Well that made no sense whatsoever" The tornado is a reference to Castlevania 2, Simons quest which was an rpg adventure which was cryptic as heck. You do the exact same thing as in Dust to trigger it but there is absolutely no indicator for it.

Possibly a Donkey kong country 2 reference is baron Kane seeing as he is similar to that ♥♥♥♥el from DKC2. It might have been inspired by ♥♥♥♥el or just been a coincidence, but that's what he made me think of when I got scared ♥♥♥♥less from him appearing the first time.

The blombs made me think of Boo's from the Mario games though this might just be a coincidence.

The merchant Sereth references Resident evil quoting the merchant from the games (can't rememeber which) where he will reffer to you as "stranger".

Those were the only ones I could find myself but if there is more i'd love to hear it! Even if they're just figments of your memory they probably still made you think back.

I should mention what my favorite reference was. It was the tornado wall, seeing as I had walked around for hours trying to figure out what treasures i was missing in the blackmoor mountains and the sorrowing meadows. As soon as i read a post where someone explain that I was supposed to kneel infront of the flower on the grave I instantly thought of Castlevania 2 and rushed back to the blackmoor mountains to find that one friend I was missing. It was a great feeling figuring out how to do that specific part without looking it up and spoiling it.

None whatsoever.

I did recognize the Bastion level, even though I hadn't played Bastion at the time. I had seen the trailers, though, and already had it in my library :-) I'm also able to id some other friends based on the trailers (not all of them, though), and I've gotten a game or two through humblebundle since then.

Some of the dialogue that people consider references is just dialogue that was funny; same for stuff like the mysterious wall chicken.

The tornado made no sense whatsoever, and I didn't even figure it out myself. Nothing I tried got me through that keyhole so I figured it was just a random texture, and I didn't find the missing friend anywhere else either. I DID get a ton of levels searching Blackmoor Mountains over and over again before giving up, though. If I had to make a review with scores, that would have reduced the score.
Yeah, even with the amount of experience I had with Castlevania 2 I still couldn't figure it out at first. It was a complete kick to the face when I found out though.
