Linux port?
Will the developer push out a Linux port (probably through a seperate publisher)? I'd love to play this but my main Windows laptop has fried.

The game is made with the XNA framework, which is made by Microsoft, who probably wouldn't let the linux developers anywhere near the source. So I'm not sure it would be possible to port it without rewriting the game without the XNA framework.

That would be correct, except that some people have already written an XNA implementation that works on Linux: MonoGame. I have absolutely no idea how good it is, but Bastion and FEZ both use it so it can't be too bad.

I am actually going to be looking at Monogame soon. It's a bit more complicated than me just wanting to put it on Linux though, but I'll keep you posted.

That'll be great! Many of us only run Linux (my Win32 laptop fried) and I'd love to play the game on my Nvidia-bearing Linux laptop. If MonoGame helps get it over there, all worth it.

If looking at monogame, make sure to look at the SDL2 branch by flibitijibibo. Much more improved mac osx and linux support with that branch(joysticks, fullscreen config, steam big picture, etc)

Chiming in to voice my support for a Linux version.

Crossing my fingers for a Linux version. After watching the trailer and reading some reviews, I am very eager to play this game, but I don’t have Windows (or an X-Box). If you would ever bring this game to Linux, I would buy it without a second thought.

I would love it for linux too. Right now I would even take a wine port. I tried to do it myself but only got as far as the starting video and it crashed.

Well, I was able to get my Win7 laptop repaired and play it... but I still want a Linux port! Plus, since Valve's Steam Machine is Linux based, it's worth while to port it.

Steam Box is coming, and this game definitely deserves to be on it at launch!

Oh wait... published by Microsoft.. that could be a problem. :/

Microsoft may be a publisher but they are active with some works in the Linux scheme. They're being closely watched, though. If MonoGame works for Dust, though, it may be worth Microsoft's time to assist MonoGame.

pretty sure they'd only do it if it means sales. I admit, I'm not clear on how licensing works. But I really do hope Dust makes it to GNU/Linux and Steam Box. I'd buy this game to play on my toaster if it was available.

No worries, Microsoft has been a joy to work with, and generally hands-off with stuff like ports. I haven't forgotten about Linux users... more news as it develops!
