Similar games?

Would I be right in saying that there aren't any other 1080p Metroid-style games on PC? This would be such a crime, I'd forgotten how addictive they were! If anyone knows any others, please let me know. :)

Off the top of my head, there's Carpe Fulgrum's translation of Fortune Summoners (although the melee combat/controls are a little sticky - I think there's a demo).

There's also Cave Story + (which is amazing whether or not you've played the original freeware game).

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 has a similar art style (Dean Dodrill worked on that game) but it was made in 1998, so it's fairly low-res, and it's a linear platformer with metroidvania influences. It has music from Funky Rustic (before he was known as that) as well. The Secret Files has Lori, who I think was created by Dean Dodrill.

It's not exactly what you were asking, but it is Dust's [spiritual] predecessor.

I totally forgot about that game! Not quite what I'm after but I still would like to try it! However, I can't seem to find it, even on GOG :(. They're quite expensive on eBay too and I don't want to end up getting a bootleg.

Marumasa : The Demon Blade for Wii has very similar combat and hand drawn art style. The game does run well on Dolphin emulator (if your PC is strong enough to run it)

On the PC, Rayman Origins and Aquaria immediately come to mind. Both of those -- and Rayman Origins in particular -- are *deeply* fantastic games. I don't know if Aquaria is 1080p. I think RO might be, though.

Odin Sphere on the PS2 is also similar but I don't really like Odin Sphere.

I've gotten to the 4th playthrough each time you beat Odin Sphere another book appears with another story and playing as another character there is 5 total.

This game was better done on the RPG elements for the most part but Odin Sphere has some serious depth to it.

Guardian Heroes HD (360 only) Brawler / RPG with branching paths.

(And to reiterate titles what others have mentioned) Vanillaware's Odin Sphere and Muramasa are the closest to Dust however those games get very repetative due to the constant reuse of locations and enemies.

Imo Aquaria stands up there with Dust (Fortune Summoners is good too) but there really isn't that many 1080p ARPGs of this type, either you have to look at retro games like Wonderboy 3/4 or games that arn't RPGs or Cave Story clones like GunGirl2.

There are a couple of other PC indies made by 1 or 2 man teams that are similar to Dust (EDIT that are in production) which are worth keeping an eye out for.
Iconocast, Owlboy and another game by the team who made Legend of Fae sorry I cant remember the name atm.

Hopefully Derek Yuu will go back to making another game like Aquaria once he's finnished porting Splunky.

Everyone loves to compare this game to Muramasa, that's probably your best bet then

There is castle crashers, a kinda beat them up, find items, beat bosses so on.
Can be played with 4 players coop and has combos / magic / archery.
The graphics might not seem as up to date but they are as they stand crisp and fun.
There is also another game that uses physics really well and truly has epic boss fights "Intrusion 2" Tho this one is a shooter but not to be missed!
Give it a look!

Hmm. I don't know why no one has mentioned Darksiders yet. More Zelda than Metroid, but the same basic ideas of getting items to unlock new areas is there.

Not on PC, but Shadow Complex is the most famous one aside from Dust by far.
