Freezing on Linux
The game had been running great without a hitch for the first ten and a half hours. Now, it freezes every couple of hours of gameplay. It happens at random times, and always during the gameplay itself (not during menu screens, dialogue or treasure chests).

What happens is that the current image onscreen will freeze, and the audio will keep skipping on the spot. I will have to reboot my computer. I'm luckily able to continue advancing in the game, as I now make a point of saving often.

I hope this helps resolve the freezing for the SteamOS release.

System information:
Ubuntu 12.04.4, 64-bit
Unity Desktop Environment (vanilla)
AMD Athlon II X4 645, 3.10 GHz
AMD Radeon HD 6790
ATI/AMD Proprietary FGLRX Graphics Driver (Version 4.3.12618)

You are not alone, but my install is on a low power machine. I thought it was the computer.

DRM free version from Humble Store works for several hours straight for me, but of course it's not related to Steam in any way. I think it's AMD video drivers, i have nvidia card.
If whole system freezes (switching to text mode console or ssh login and killing game process or restarting Xorg doesn't work) then it's either video drivers or something wrong with hardware.

I have the same issue with an Nvidia card. I posted a message a couple of days ago in the support thread. Like you it feels like it didn't happen the 1st hours of gameplay but now it's happening really often (~30mins max).
