Dust: An Elysian Tail

Dust: An Elysian Tail

Im curious why...
...people hate this game because it uses the anthro/furry image. I mean... i understand that perverted, over the top furries dont give the "genre" a respectable image any more than the next disgusting over sexualized human being of any genre or fetish for that matter does...

But this game IS using the furry image in a proper, respectable and clean way. I could see if the game was pervy and sexualized but it has absolutely nothing at all of that sort of material in it whatsoever. If people that relate to themselves as furry are being disgusting and nasty and people dont like, fair enough. But in the case of this game its the opposite. This is the kind of "furry" image i think would and should be considered acceptable such as looney tunes or even mickey mouse.

Im just curious why people still flame it for being furry even though its proper and respectable use of furry. :o

This is the internet, and for the most part the internet is for porn. Generally pornography draws more attention than anything else and it just so happens that there's a good amount of furry-related pornography out there. By good amount, I don't mean it's the majority and in reality it's a very small fraction, but the simple nature that it exists is enough to bring it to the forefront of people's minds and it's one of the first things people associate with it as a result.

Personally I didn't give it second thought. I never considered the game a "furry" game, I just saw it as a kick-ass action platformer with beautiful graphics. I knew the main character was something along the lines of a fox and that most of the characters met were some kind of animal race, but not once did I ever label the game "furry".

I've also encouraged myself to be a lot more open minded about stuff like this. It's too easy to take a look at something and form a negative opinion of it without actually checking it out (the whole first impression thing). I find that, rather than allowing others' opinions and initial reactions form my own opinion, I've come to appreciate far more things than before because I was willing to give it a chance.
it's just like with racism, ♥♥♥♥/hetero and other things like that, i don't have anything against lesbians ( one of my exes is lez ), gays, incest, black, asians, aliens and other things like that, you don't choose it, you're born with it and if some people can't understand it they're just stupid, i'm really open minded and i have developed my own sentance, maybe little brutal but from my experiences, it's fit more more less to our world "Let idiots belive they're right, when they'll find out by themselvs they're wrong, it will hurt them more".

this game is masterpiece of art, not only gamming but true art, furry? lol, i'm big fan of sonic franchise since i was eleven or even younger so for me it's something normal, if they wont play it just beacsue "Ewww, look, furry's talking animals, eww, disgusting" they will never find out how good it is,
there is few people who can be saved from this but in my eyes, most of them is simple idiots who are not worth my time and effort.

@down: it's not only about anti-furry's, i'm maybe selfish piece of ♥♥♥♥ but i prefer being this and have calm life

gravitylol, it's ironic how you claim to be really open minded but yet go on to post such a narrow minded opinion on everybody who doesn't appreciate "furry's".
Personally, i absolutely love how Dust plays, it's a technical piece of art especially because its a one man project. The art style however is something i just cannot appreciate, not in any form. I borderline detest the whole furry concept, mostly because of the common usage and associations made with it, aka, "furry porn" and oversexualization. It also just draws me out of the experience to be talking to walking farmer rabbits and whatnot. That said, i hardly think a lot of people actually put the game aside for its aestethics. But claiming everyone who doesn't like or play the game because of the art setting is an idiot, is ironcally idiotic.

People are not obliged to like furry/antropomorphic concepts, just as much as you are not obligated to like whatever art style it is you don't like. But should we call you an idiot for that?

Think not ...

Thats precisely my point. And as i said i get that. The openess to the sexualization turns people away. There are good "furs" and there are bad "furs" like theyre are desirable people in a community and undesirable ones in it, such is with any community anyone directly or indirectly belongs to. This game was made by the good people of the furry genre that probably feel the same way that you do about the negative side of it, and it shows. Not appreciating the sexual side of something is understandable. This game should be appreciated as the good side of it.

The same people that hate it were the same people that grew up watching it before they found out about rule 34, myself included.

Before I start: I do not speak for or represent the fandom for more then 0,0000000001% (or something along those lines)

Most of those people learned about the fandom trough 4Chan or Rule 34 (and such sites)
I remember the Noogy saying he wasn't (or wouldn't consider himself to be one) a furry and got most of his inspiration trough disney but that discussion was when this was first released on Steam...

It just get's flamed for using the art style "cuz why not? I want to blame this for my sad, sad ignorant life!" (You can dislike art and i'll live with it, but FFS don't ♥♥♥♥♥ about it)
Theres just a lot of narrow minded people out there

I'm not denying the fandom has a negative side (every fandom does just apply rule 34...even the memes...) It's just sad how amazing artists get ignored and they focus purely on the negatives
Permission to post link for example?(clean artist)

Hell i've seen TLoK...dat forum deticated to that trough...some people really have talent.
Funny how that sparked the love for Krystal (Poor Starfox fans...)
It's really just people who think the loud minority is what it is. Same thing happen to Star Trek and everyone thinks that a Trekkie is some virgin nerd who dresses up and go to sci-fi conventions for example. But of course this is not true and alot of Trekkies I know of actually have very successful careers, married with kids, and actually don't look nerdy at all.

Sadly of course people do not want to try to understand and make thier own truths which ina saying "Nothing is real, everything is permitted." Though taken from original source (not from Assassion's Creed) means that people believe what they wanna believe, even when it's false, til the point they think it is the truth and much rather act like a jerk then admit they are wrong.

Though on a personal note anybody who hates on a fandom usually has to be a pathetic person since there are so many other things wrong that when tehre is something people like and they have to hate and throw so many lies around, it just kind of irks me but course it is the internet, which is a safety net since you know these people would be way too gutless to admit it outside.
Sooooo....to these people, everybody who grew up watching Carebears, Berenstein Bears, Bugs Bunny, Garfield, Biker Mice from Mars, Swat Kats and almost every Disney movie featuring anthropomorphic animals is a sexual deviant?

OH NOES!! :rshocked:

But like others said, it's just raw stupidity and extreme simple mindedness.

OP: the fact that you don't understand why, is a GOOD thing. You're too mentally enlightened and mature to be able to grasp how ridiculous the human mind can be.

Stereotypes.. the last resort for the biggest morons
Most of the times the last resort is : Animal ♥♥♥♥♥♥, or pothead (hurray for being dutch!)

Nothing is real (wasn't it true?), everything is permitted
I always feel like talking about religion when i hear that line, but i agree with you

I'm just trying to make this comment longer to make it look like theres a purpose instead of the simple : I fully agree with you

Ugh, Internet at its finest.

I bought the game attending to a recommendation from some random dude on the Internet. Loved it, end of story.

Furry or not furry, I don't care. Game is fun, art is beautiful, story is OK. Don't really care about the weird/sick/strange/recurring fantasies of some other bunch of random dudes on the Internet. If you want to enjoy it, fap to it, talk crap or praise it, do as you please it, but please understand that I don't give a damn.

It's a game, after all.

I saw Fidget and thought furry o_o
But the game is good and there's nothing inappropriate thankfully.
It's because for many people, hating things is fun, and hating things on the internet is safer because in Real Life, being an annoying assclown might result in a well-deserved beating.

Until you piss off the wrong person and he sends you a pile of viruses hacks your pc and could frame you for... a lot of bad things

Luckily most people don't seem to know how to do that and those who do would rather not waste their time on someone with a conflicting opinion when they could instead use such skills to hack an entire group at once to send a message or hold for ransom. Should also be noted that the creation and distribution of malicious software such as a virus is illegal in itself and should it be traced back to the originator, it could go both ways.

But Tirigon has a point. The Greater Internet F-Wad Theory: When you take an average ordinary person, add an audience and anomity, you have someone who can be the douchebag they've always wanted to be without any of the consequences. When people don't know who you are you'll get away with it since there's no way for the average internet user to figure out who you are. If you disagree with something, you can be as blunt and up front about dropping your opinion on it and pepper it with as many curses, explitives, and whatever you think would offend people who disagree with you at no harm.
