HeXen: Beyond Heretic

Do we want a new Hexen game?
considering that Raven Software is owned by Activision, and the fact that the publisher's flagship FPS has definitely influenced non-Call of Duty shooters owned by Activision, do we really want a reboot of the franchise?

Can't be any worse than Hexen II... the early previews made it sound so much better than it ended up being.

No. Not from Activision c*nts.

I mean Hexen has even more f*cked up and complex level design than doom, i'm enjoying it a lot. Seeing a railroaded shooter with regeneration and 80% of cutscenes instead of gameplay will break my heart.

Great link Shadow, that actually looks like a good game, and pretty hexen like so far from what they have shown. Keeping my eye on that one.

As for the thread's discussion, a modern hexen sequel would have to be done right or not at all, and in my opinion made VERY MUCH like the original hexen as far as the maps and puzzles go/work.

Actually Techland is HIV positive and is confirmed for being unable to make a balanced and well-designed RPG game. I suspect Hellraid will have weapons that break after 3 uses, "challenges" that will suddenly level your character 15 times and render your equipment useless, enemies that inexplicably scale with you despite no story explanation at all, and 90 hours of backtracking gameplay running through areas that should have fast travel or at least vehicles.

My worry is that Raven Software might be a shadow of its former self, and if tasked to reboot Hexen, it'd be Call of Duty with magic tacked on.
I totally agree with festiven00b. Raven was good with Heretic and amazing when they developed Hexen. The game was much more complex than Doom 2 and the level design was rich and varied. The coop mode was superb at the time.

I am still looking for people to play online to Hexen using Doomsday. Anyone there wants to play Hexen/Heretic-2?? Please write to me!!

i now i want one
The problem with seeing a new Hexen game in this day and age is that it'll just be Call of Duty with magic, with the majority of your enemies being generic mooks with assault rifles and in the the few times you do fight a Chaos Serpent or Ettin, expect a quick-time event.

Have faith, people. By the way, you could try this game, kinda replicates Hexen, but in a good modern way. http://store.steampowered.com/app/2100/
On one hand, Call of Duty with magic might actually be hilariously playable, due to the change in setting making the generic gameplay more enjoyable.

But nah. I've posted elsewhere that any new Hexen game will never be Hexen no matter how hard people try to recreate that feel.
An attempt at a faithful recreation will fail because the things that were contemporary to Heretic/Hexen and influenced its design are no longer contemporary today, and imitating something without knowing where it draws its inspiration from tends to fall flat.
An attempt at a reimagining that's contemporary to modern times will fail because the old hexen fans will reject the game for not feeling like the old times, and new fans won't get the fanservice.

A new Hexen game, made with modern contemporary influences, and made seriously, would probably involve modern-ish gothic metal music (think Kamelot or whatever) and Game of Thrones inspired art designs. It could be good, but would anyone even give it a chance?

What you do want to consider is that, its probably not the same "Raven software" who made the original Hexen, The only way this can fly, Is if Hexen will become public domain, and through the community, we could get a good expansion.
