why this frustrating save mechanic ?
either this game is is rockhard in some places or I am just bad. But today I experienced a moment of frustration. I made a good part of the "boomerang level" after a bazillion tries. I had to reboot my laptop and guess what. after starting the game again I was at the start of the Level. I can respawn at the point I reached an infinite number of times. But why is this progress not saved? I just don't get it

Well, normally you should be able to pass it much faster since it's all based on finding the right combination/solution. It's old-school, I know... but in a way, I want the players to be good enough before entering the next level.

it's rockhard, dude .... smashing-your-screen-in-anger hard. at least for me, haha. but keep going, it's worth it. the save points are not bad at all actually. it's the knowldege of certain functions of your elements which makes the game 'easier'. for example: I had no idea that you can switch from ice to fire repeatedly in order to gain speed. also, press DOWN more than once while in mid-air in order to fall faster as a stone, creating more energy and slingshot out of certain situations easier.

EDIT: just read your post again more carefully. ignore the above. YES, if you don't finish a level and shout down your station you need start again at the very beginning of it ... as QuarkCannon already wrote: it's oldschool, be glad you need to repeat the whole chapter again ;)

yes it's worth it but let me explain me in depth. It is pretty much the same situation I had with bioshock. I knew it will take a while to get immersed in the game and it doesn't make sense to even start it if I'm not sure I have 2 hours of uninterrupted playtime. So due to time constraints I never finished bioshock 2 even though I loved the first game. This game could profit from a meat boy alike replay at the end. I had the most satisfactory moments watching the dozens of deaths I experienced after finishing a hard level. To get back to my point: you could dip into meat boy just for a couple of minutes without a problem. You only lose these replays if you cannot finish a level in this given moment.
