Extremely hard?
Is it just me or is this game extremely hard? I've played and beaten all the Half Life games on hard, but this just seems like a whole new level...

I wouldn't know for sure. I played on normal and succeeded to die a few times for random reasons. Then again, I also died a few times on all Half life games so I didn't notice anything really different.

Minerva and Half Life 2, although use the same engine, are two different animals. Half life 2, you play a rogue scientist with bulked armor and weapons and able to take a toll, while in Minerva, you play a rogue soldier with the exact same armor, exact same weapons as the ones you fight against. This means that in order to survive, you yourself need to think and essentially be on a higher level than your physical equals.

In Minerva, the beauty of the combat is that it is all more fast paced and fluid, and you can rarely go in guns-a-blazin', you need to utilize cover, rotate through weapons quickly, and yes, sometimes, even run away.

TL;DR, if you want to survive in Minerva, you need to start thinking differently, start thinking brutally in a survivalist mindset.

Yes...it's harder then the original games. I remember there was a statement from Adam somehere that the difficulty setting is different from the original games although the name convention is the same. In other words normal in MINERVA would be the same as hard in HL2.

I thought it was quite easy/medium for me.

As someone who enjoyed challenges in the Half-Life games, and played them all on Normal, I like to think I'm ok at half-life.

Apparently not.

See, I do remember having to utilize all the things Detective Dog mentioned. I couldn't just go in guns-a-blazing in the original Half-Life games, either. So... this really shouldn't be that different.

I guess I'll have to play this on Easy. :/

yeah if I had known everything that Detective Dog mentioned, I wouldn't have done half of the things that I did haha. Will keep playing on hard, but thanks for letting me know. I just had to make sure that I didn't just suddenly suck at Half Life xD

Well that's stupid.

Playing HL2 I died only in some random situations. HL2 is walk in the park. Minerva is significantly harder, but still nothing exceptional, just regular.

In a nutshell, HL2 is run and gun, with some physics puzzles along the way, MINERVA's combat is fluid, fast, brutal, and all about survival.

Well said.

Most hard part for me was with the Zombines hoarding me during the escape. Other than that, it was quite simple.

In my opinion the hardness comes from the puzzling design of the levels, coupled with redundant areas/rooms that don't serve a purpose other than hiding loot or enemies. You can really get lost searching for some switch to switch. Also the Combine does seem to be more agressive, and the zombies come in greater numbers at once and in mixed groups. As for the most frustrating part? That section where you need to blow some steampipes durring the escape. I couldn't find out just how to open that door near the hacked turrets. Puzzling indeed!
