Just beat MINERVA. Thoughts inside (spoiler free)
This was an intense campaign. It took me just a little under two hours to get all the way through, and my heart was pumping the whole time. It's definitely valve quality, probably even better than episode 1 (at least). If it was longer I would say it was almost as good as the original HL2.

For a mod, I encountered no bugs (surprising), well balanced but challenging enemies and situations, and most of the puzzles were intuitive and fairly easily solved (though I did get stuck one one puzzle, which I think was more my fault because the solution was staring me in the face for 15minutes). There was only one time where I was completely stuck with no clue where to go, but I just had to retrace my steps to get back on the right track.

Minerva is a fantastically put together mod. It's action packed, adrenaline pumping, and thought provoking. The story is fairly barebones, with no voice acting, but is definitely enough to hold your interest. I would definitely recommend everybody play this, especially if you enjoyed the other half life games.

was that one of your stuck that one support needs to be fired into after the doors have blown up and you were warned about parasite wawes incoming (music has started during that script)? That was mine :oD

I liked the mod very much, until i hit the half way point. After that it turned into a shooting gallery. To a point where i started to get bored of the endless waves of enemies. I couldn't even follow what this mysterius person was trying to tell me, since i there was always something attacking me.

@Mouras, THAT IS THE EXACT PART, I'm glad to know it wasn't me.

@J.P. Yeah Definitely, I would have loved a few more moments to read each transmission. Perhaps even a few more puzzles on the way back up, something to break up the shooting.

Though the steam pipe puzzle towards the end was super intense. Even better might be a few more clues about what needed to be done. In the very bottom when you sabotage the portal, I only figured out the solution through absolute pure luck.

Makes you want Episode 3 even more, doesn't it? Ya hear us Valve? Do you? Do you?

Yeah, you'd think that closing an interdimensional portal could be done with a bit more spectacle and excitment than unplugging it. And, metal struts that fail after being shot? That got me stuck thrice because they were established as unbrekable.

Anyone interested in digging up old plot details should look at the sort-of-in-fiction MINERVA website[hylobatidae.org] - there's also loads of speculation on the old forums[hylobatidae.org]. (They're read-only now, after spammers broke through multiple layers of anti-spam stuff. But you can go comment on the blog[hylobatidae.org]...)

It has its good parts, however personally I found it a big confusing. I think some paths could have been better ilustrated (instead of forcing you to run around the same rooms 4 times in a row), the trigger points felt a bit cheap (obscure metal plates, valves that don't seem to do anything) and overall layout could have been a bit more linear, however overall it is a very atmospheric game and it recreated perfectly the feel of a combine facility.

Everyone is raving about the level design, but the best part for me was the music. So good. Also, it was probably more intense and enthralling than Episode 1.

This. The story is really just wallpaper, a painted backdrop you come to realise. Its basically a shoot 'em up with little variation, There is one point where you encounter a floor full of headcrabs but apart from that its soldiers, soldiiers, and round the next corner... more soldiers. Some variation in weaponry would be nice too there are only a couple of pickups for the Magnum for instance and they don't last long. 90% of the time I was using the SMG. Got a bit tedious after a point. My advice for the future would be vary up the gameplay a little, and put in some proper puzzles that actually require some brainwork.

Was it worth it? Definately, since it costs nothing. A nice mod especially as its just single person behind it. Good work.
