Why does my anti-virus program recognize this game's startup as a virus?

I want to play it, but when I start it up, my anti-virus program recognizes it as a virus. I don't want to play it if it's potentially harmful to my computer

Assuming you are using a non-pirated version, most likely a so called "false postive". The safest route is always to contact the company of your anti virus software and send them the suspicious file for testing. In case of a false positive, your anti virus software will alert you no longer after the next update.
