Oh dear, after so many years and when I stared at how much time spent on this boy, I guess its a time to write a review.
First of all, I take game developments and maintenance seriously. So based on my experience I won't suggest you obtain this game unless it's on sale or you can play the cracked version because the multiplayer is BROKEN. Yes, it's all in caps like I'm very serious. The only part that is broken, is the anti-cheats. When the game was out, it was hot and popular, but the competitive multiplayer mode was a sheyt-hole. So many hackers that I spotted that I can literally say everyone was probably hacking (me 2 ;] cuz everyone was hacking). This phenomenon totally destroyed the PvP experience. Wall hacking, super-speed, there were even hacks that I don't even know what it is, like I was a redneck in a apple store and my mind blown. Enough notions for that, since a PvP without anti-cheat sound horribly enough.
BUT.The co-op mode was one of the best experience I've ever had. Since TCSC series have always been a thrilling spy-action title, playing with your friend is awesome that will make you tities hard as rocks. I'm just implying the intense moments the game will give you. The story is absolutely amazing, I have never read the original Tom Clancy's novels but playing something like "Mission Impossible" or "Bourne Series", special agents, spy, fancy gadgets & equipments, never gets old. Even sometimes my brain can't really catch up with the "intellectual" conversations sine English is not my first language, but all it matters is the momentum. Not to mention Sam Fisher looks perfect for a agent even his face changed a LOT, I remember I was questioning if they changed the main character when I saw him in Blacklist for the first time.
Above all, I always love the spy titles, and TCSC has always been nice stealth games. Despite the bad efforts on PvP maintenance, this game is good to play with a best friend (yes two players only in co-op) through the whole campaign. I might just play it again, just for fun.
I mentioned PvP was not satisfying, but the PvP design is unique and amazing (subjective), I wouldn't say it is well balanced since they never updated any PvP content or a major fixes. (may contain spoilers) Playing in two factions as Merc or spy sounds awesome and looks amazing. Mercs literally looks like badasses and beefy and limited with first person view, Spies look very slickly in terms of the armor design and the weapon specifics, stealthy black-shadow with high-end gears attached and with third person view only. Spies can instantly kill a Mercs just like you would do in the single player mode, if you handle the kill with good timing because with proper responds and/or cooperations Mercs can counterattack in the close range combat. Only dropping from a higher ground or ledge kill cannot be reversed. Different weapons and modifications make the PvP mode even more interesting, both Mercs and Spies have a special view, different types of radars (thermal, motion-tacking, sound detecting, etc.) supporting Mercs on spotting or locating Spies, different goggles (electronic, sonar, thermal) are provided to Spies as well. PvP mode is sure, very competitive and intense, for me it was all about my skills and techniques, and how slippery or sharpen you brain react. It is very easy to get paranoid while playing as Mercs since your vision is limited, and you can get cocky and shot in the back because of taking too much advantages while playing as Spies. Even though the game is old, the server is still activating, you can still find a lobby with bunch of hardcore fans still playing. I would say that is a conscientious move of Ubisoft, even you will still get rekt by hackers. lel..
