You can also hold directions and spam light attack.
And get a controller.
The idea is pretty well explained in the video, all you need to do is press the "light attack" + the direction of the enemy (with your left joystick) at the same time when the attack happens (which is the red flash light)
It took me a while to understand this proces as well, so the "ragequit" is understandable, but its a matter of practice, and it would be shame if you didn't finish this game, for me it's one of the best games i've enjoyed playing.
and my extra note would be to use the "lock on enemy" button to prevent camera issues in the game.
