DEFAULT_TEAM_MODEL Error

I get this error when attempting to join a server with certain bots playing on it, I am kicked from the server and a large yellow box appears with the error. There is very little information on this error, but what i have been able to find suggests it's an issue with the CDKey not being entered correctly.

I have both the steam version and non steam version of this game, my non steam version works perfectly. I have compared the two q3key.cfg files and have noticed that each time I load steam the CDkey info that is generated when I verify the key in game is overwritten in the wrong format.

Has anyone found a work around for this issue or know of any official word on it?
