Part of the appeal of some old school games was figuring things our for yourselves.
We like that and we feel that modern games are often too restrictive in guiding us through.
Younger generations grew up with many such games so it's understandable that many players may feel totally lost and may think that the lack of direction in LoD is an error. Legends of Dawn by design is open and doesn't guide you much so it may not be the perfect game for inpatient players.

We wrote the Manual which you can find on Legends of Dawn Steam site, on the right side, button "View the manual".
Please read it. It will help you get going. You'll find a lot of answers to the questions being posted here.
Unless you prefer finding the answers thorugh the community in which case, have a fun.

Some things are harder to figure out even with the manual so we'll keep listening how to improve it ot how to add some helpers within game.

I would whole heartedly agree. A lot of the confusion of my first attempt at playing was resolved after finding the manual. It is so integral, I would go so far as to put a warning on the main menu, for those that were unaware a manual was included.
Is there some place to download the manual to my computer? The Steam link takes a long time to load and doesn't always work.
I'll see what we can do about putting an external link up, PuddlePirate. Might take a while before we can get to it though.
if your using acrobat reader there is a feature up in the top right hand corner to download the manual once you initially open it thus allowing it to open faster once you have downloaded it

Yeah that worked, I saved it to my PC. Thanks.
Reasonable enough. I do think that some description of potions' and other useable items' effects in the tooltips would be helpful. Equibable items have this, why not useables?
At the very least, once you use an item, its effect should be recorded.
I read the manual and it was helpful, the only thing I dislike is the lack of tooltips in-game for items - how are you supposed to know what they do?
I think the idea is that you are supposed to test things to see what they do. Drink the potion and read the buff you get, eat the food and see what it gives you.
I really liked that I had to find things for myself.
There is still a good amount not covered by the manual, though.

You mention using runes for runelocks, but not the limitation that there's only one color for each lock.

You don't mention what an item with a sparkly or a 'glowing' icon means. Are they magical? What does a craft bonus mean/do exactly? Why are they different from normal (they cost the same, so who knows).

Can you store items in any container without it disappearing?

Here's the dumb question of the day: How do I make/get a torch in this game? I'm well over fifteen hours in and am clueless. Tried coal and firewood. Do I need more crafting skill, like lumber?
The manual is pretty decent - only issue with it is a) takes longtime for steam to load it up and b) somethings in the manual... dont work ie the keys for camera rotate - and yes i know its being worked on
