well... it doesnt eat up as much system memory. thats good I guess, its still not very good though. its better, but better doesnt make it good. its in the grey so to speak. I recomend waiting some more.
think of the most promissing game you can think of with the most worse outcome and your in the Ring! So said by a former white knight and fanboy sorry .

I just got the game and the performance is really bad and my PC runs BF4 on Ultra.
Sure it does, and with over 60 Fps right :D
*Sings*

Takedown! Takedown!
Everyone's trying to escape Arkania alive!
Takedown! Takedown!
Red Sabre!
Lol well any pc can run BF4 on ultra, the thing is, how good it runs it rofl. Anyways the game seems to be doing better but not by much. I played it on my friends account when it came out and other than random crashes the game felt clunky (it's not that great in terms graphics but it just felt choppy), now it feels smoother but like others have said, it isn't a big of an improvement.

Any ideas what options may be causing the choppiness?
I've played it for a little over an hour - I haven't experienced any performance issues. The game play is quite decent so far (you have to use WASD because mouse movement is half-assed) and I would say this is definitely more professional and futher along than Realm Of Arkania: Blade of Darkness.

Here's my specs:

Operating System
Windows 8.1 Pro 32-bit
CPU
Intel Pentium G645 @ 2.90GHz
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8H61-M LX3 R2.0 (LGA1155)
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1440x900@60Hz)
2048MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 6670 (Sapphire/PCPartner)

I have all of the settings pretty much maxed as well with exception of shadows only on objects, set at meidum, and Antialiasing and Antistropic Filtering turned down 2x's (you never really need those two nowadays anyways).

Aside from fixing the strange mouse-movement issue the only other thing during my hour of play that kinda sucked was the minimap not making note Active quests. I had to keep the Map panel open while playing to see which way I was heading and the Map panel takes up half of the screen (but you can repsosition it).

Oh, one other thing that was weird is that your characters can start walking up on rocks and get himself stuck in odd places - one time the only way to set myself free was to wiggle into the water and if you're in the water too long trying to find surface to come back out on you wind up drowning.

I had some trouble getting stuck too. had to complete reload my game. the fifth time it happened, the game crashed and corrupted the save. my biggest problem with the game isnt its weird graphical issues. its primarily memory consumption, which is considerable on low end machines and laptops and causes over heating, and the poorly designed game features/NPCs. one of the selling points for the game was the sheer number of NPCs, but most of them have nothin to say. at all. in fact if it werent for the NPCs, useless treasure, and fact that NPCs dont have any pride of ownership and thus wont stop you from ransacking their homes from top to bottom, this game would be alright.

I didnt know you could drown, but it does explain why I died while going through my inventory in the middle of that pool of water that one time...

Yeah, I think this is primarily the main reason I have not been having as many performance issues as many have had over the past year in quite a few games - I'm playing on a desktop which offers more space for meatier graphics cards requiring fans.

Something is terribly un-optimized though. I can run current AAA games like Batman Origins, Tomb Raider, Skyrim, etc. all at high settings with 50-60 fps and no stuttering. This game is dropping into the 20s for no apparent reason, and it doesn't seem to matter what settings I have.

Win7 x64, NVidia 560ti, AMD 8 core cpu, 8 gig dual-chan mem

I did some tweaking in the NVidia panel and things are running quite good now. I think it was overriding the AA and vertical sync that did it. However, the game crashes on exit now...suppose I can live with that if the game looks and runs better.

I think the game just needs a little bit more work to make it a very good game, but it is playable (and enjoyable) as is. Of course I am coming in at patch 1.07, so I can only imagine what it was like at 1.0!

"everything lawson grey death said"

they are too busy making DLC and a sequal to deliver on their promises. too bad. ive seen big budget companies that behave worse, but ive seen them behave better too. the only thing I can say, is that at least its not "the war z."
