3 or 4?
Hey I used to play the original two tropicos, before I lost them ( the discs).

I wanna get back into them. i dont care so much for the dlcs.

Which do you think is best, 3 or 4? I got the demo for 4 and its pretty neat (hard to tell from a demo entirely) and i'm downloading the demo for 3 right now. to be honest, i'm leaning towards 3 cuz of the price, but if 4 is that much better, i will hold out and wait for it to get a bit cheaper, or until my broke student ♥♥♥ can actually spare $30.

I would like to hear some opinions on those who have tried both. I know sequels arent ALWAYS better.

I prefer 3 tbh however i can't really say i've explored tropical 4 too much, not enough time. [I do own both though]

If you're strapped for cash I'd suggest waiting to get one of them from one of the bundle sites. I got 3 SE in a bundle from bundle stars for around $5. http://indiegamebundle.wikia.com/wiki/Indie_Game_Bundle_Wiki is useful for somewhat keeping track of a few of the bundle sites and what's on them currently.

4 without a doubt. It's mostly the same game but with many improvements and more content. So there's no reason to stay with 3.

both are on humble bundle atm

Yes, go to Humble Bundle and purchase the Weekly Sale! This week, if you pay $1 or more, you get Tropico 3, Sine Mora, SkyDrift, and Anna - Extended Edition. If you pay $6 or more, you'll also receive Tropico 4 and Jagged Alliance: Back in Action!

I tried tropico a while ago and wasn't enthralled at the time but I kinda liked it. So now I have 3+4 due to humble bundle... which should I start with?

I don't think it matters. I got Tropico 4 in during the last Steam Summer Sale. I have 3 now but I haven't finished 4 yet so I'll probably play 3 after I am done with 4. Playing 4 first (first Tropico I had ever played) wasn't a problem for me. There seems to be no continuing plot... just game design improvements.

That said, I liked 4 enough to want to get 3 also just to have more missions to do. For me, getting Topico 3 for $1 feels like I got a DLC of mission packs for 4. Heh.

4 has a few small upgrades, but it shares a lot with 3. The campaign is much more involved (allthough it's still invidivdual scenarios in a chain), while 3 is just pick an island and play, while going through a checklist with multiple choices unlocking as you do more.

Quick Build - The life saver of Tropico 4, you can pay to have buildings instantly completed, while in 3, I'll have 5 construction offices and none of them working that frustrates me to no end sometimes.
