Shadowrun Returns

Shadowrun Returns

Ideas for new races.
So the chance of getting new races is kind of slim. With the state of the editor right now modding a new race in is not feasible, but that may change in the future. Most people would say there couldn't be any more playable races due to the fact that the 5 main races of Metahumanity are already in the game, but there are two possible races that would make sense in Shadowrun Returns and in an interview one of the creators said they hope they can add new races and subraces someday but there isn't a good chance.

1. Pixies- This is sort of a more recent thing in Shadowrun but Pixies are a playable race in the newer editions so why not add Pixies into Shadowrun Returns? There was a little talk about them previously. It would be nice to have a small non brutish race.

2. Ghouls- Most people mainly think of the feral ghouls but about half of Ghouls are fully sentient. Heck Ghouls even have their own highly advanced country with one of the best Metahuman hospitals in the world. While normally Ghouls are blind most inteligent Ghouls simply get eye implants so they can see so there is really nothing holding them back from being a race

Why pixies over Kitsune? and why ghouls?
and why do those races "make sense" for shadowrun returns?
Lets be real, the metahuman variants were kind of stupid and I didn't allow them in my games for obvious reasons. The main 5 pretty much cover all your bases. You don't want a brutish character, make an elf...pretend its a pxie....

I wasn't sure about Shapeshifters unless their animal type didn't affect much more than their apperance but that is actually not a bad idea now that i give more thought to it. I actually agree on the whole Metahuman variants thing. I don't really like the variants i was just saying that one of the developers was saying they were considering them. Pixies would make sense in the fact they are sapient bipeds that would add a bit more variety. I really enjoy having a variety of races even if there are some i wouldn't play. I actually prefer brutish and hostile looking races but I am sure a lot of people would like Pixies. I really like Ghouls and I don't see why they couldn't be a playable race. They are sapient, capable of using tech and magic, are humanoid in shape, would have different stats and are a part of the Shadowrun world.

I understand that the big 5 are absolutely fine. I would just enjoy a little extra variance. To each his own. Personally if they added new races my prefrence order would be Ghouls and then Shapeshifters and then Pixies.

I do have to ask would you be outright opposed to a new race or two? And if you had to pick between Pixies or Ghouls which would you prefer?

1) Not outright opposed.
2) Ghouls. Definitely ghouls.

While it isn't incredibly likely i would much prefer playble ghouls than anything else. The thing is it seems more likely that they would add pixies than ghouls. I think Ghouls if done right could be quite interesting. It would be also be interesting to have a hidden ghoul town in a future campaign where you could interact with some intelligent ghouls.

O i just thought of a highly unlikely playable race that could maybe sort of make sense: The Sasquatches! Though if i remember correctly theey can't actually speak and don't use any tech...Obviously a good choice

If your going to ask for new races, atleast pick from those that already exist in the form of subtypes. For instance, Minotaurs.

The developers have discussed both. I understand the metahuman varient subraces but i was talking about completely different races. Though technically ghouls are just a type of Infected they are physically and statistically different from the 5 main metahumans and they have their own varients so if metahuman varients were added ghouls could also have varients

Frankly I would like it if there was ACTUALLY some variety in the races that we have. As it stands there really isn't much point to picking one over the other. The all feel vanilla to me. Really, if you are making a samurai, why pick human ever?
In the original game I always played humans. Now....ppfff troll or elf everytime. Usually troll. HULK SMASH!
fredingue 2013 年 9 月 20 日 上午 9:29
Same for me...A melee Troll, an Orc riffler, a Dwarf Mage, an Elf Shaman...and a Humain as a jack-O-Trades...

I actually think part of the problem I have is that they give out too much karma... I have no reason to specialize and thus I can be any race and still be every class.
Its not like in PnP shadowrun where your race actually plays a factor in how you build your character...

I for one have a female human samurai named Sparkles. Strictly for RP reasons. I realize a Troll Sammy would have an instant advantage over me in a fight, unless maybe you take into account Sparkles wears a specially blended perfume/pheramone that Trolls find naturally distracting and offensive. She'll have carved off those extra points in body in the time it takes "Big Dumbs" to realize why he's suddenly remembering that uncomfortable day when he was a kid or whatever...

Of course I had to make a Troll Adept though. "Lung Shi Tro" is a force for sure.... And through training is unnaffected by such trivial things as peculiar olfactory stimuli.

Did they ever answer why the Tskrang from Earthdawn didn't return when the rest of Metahumanity did?
Kalon 2013 年 9 月 23 日 上午 7:04
But more to the point, in PnP shadowrun, the other races ARE better than humans, and you pay points to be a metahuman. Thoe points come at the cost of having less skills, or less money etc but could get your superhuman stats (albeit at the cost of other stats). There were decisions to be made and trade offs for every decision. You could make a human sammy that could easily beat a troll to death with its own arm Beowulf style (cause you could start the game with a million nuyen and make a sammy with 0.01 essence and enough bioware to pump your stats to near god like levels....and of course NEVER get magic healing because your essence is so low but thats assuming someone ever hit you or hurt you...)
I don't feel like I have to make any decisions in this game. Oh there is a computer to hack, let me spend some of that 200 karma to pump my skill up and TA DAH I am a decker. Oh and now I can cast spells, and summon spirits, and be a rigger, and punch people to death...and I still am more accurate than harlequin after spreading my points around...
In this game it just doesnt matter...
at least in the shadowrun SEGA game you COULD be a sammy/decker/shaman BUT you would have to GRIND for karma for WAY longer than you needed to if you had just picked a single role to play.

Not as far as I know. But if someone else knows the reason / lore behind that I would be interested to know to!

I thought that Tskrang and Obsidamen didn't return because the mana levels aren't high enough yet for them to exist. They may appear in future additions of shadowrun. Also there were actually more races in the 4th world its just that Earthdawn was set in a specific region so some races that dwelt in other areas weren't main races. Like Leafers and Jackalmen!

Crap now i want a Jackalman character

Because Earthdawn wasn't as popular as shodowrun and really has nothing to do with the shadowrun genre...I played one game of earthdawn and thought "this is total crap" but I love shadowrun enough that I threw more than a little money at the kick starter.
I would be pretty pissed if they start shoveling , in my frank opinion, stupid earther ♥♥♥♥ into my cyberpunk genre
I mean, magic and metahumans already kind of push the envelope. There is already more than enough metahumanity for it to be somewhat believable but still fantastic (I mean, all the meta humans still look human because they were or are closely related to humans. Please don't push to destroy the cyberpunk genre with high fantasy. High fantasy is its own genre. Would you dress like terminator at a renaissance faire? As Gandolph at a sci fi convention? Fantasy and sci fi nerds are natural enemies...
