Well... This is an easy choice.
Just went to see if there were any new pistols for me and there are two shiny new ones better than my current weapon.

The Ruger Thunderbolt, with 14 dmg, 19 RNG and 12 CAP for 500

and

A Colt Manhunter, with 14 DMG, 19 RNG, and 16 CAP for 425.

75 nuyen less for a gun that's exactly the same, except for having a larger magazine. Why the Hell would I pay for the 500 one?

Name Brand? Maybe your character is a Ruger person

To be honest, a lot of the PnP is just like this.

The Tabletop game has its share of brand loyalty.... ;-p

Yeah brand loyalty or brand hatred based on which corp has their fingers in what.. could even be you hate Ares and yet use an Ares weapon to kill Ares employees..

The Ares Predator isn't just a pistol. It's the inofficial Shadowrunner badge of office.

Er, because you want to fire more bullets before having to waste an AP reloading. At least before you unlock free reloading?

But 75 nuyen is nothing really.#

Oh, wait, the gun with the larger magazine is cheaper? God alone only knows. Economics is wierd.

Oh, concerning the OPs question: isn't the colt one of the pistols that restricts some of your skills ( since you need an at least semi-automatic pistol for them )?
SR Jul 27, 2013 @ 1:27pm
Some pistols dont have access to all firing types.
SR Jul 27, 2013 @ 1:28pm
actually, all the ranged weapons are like that..some are better because of the skill access they let you use. Others are for people with high ranged combat, but no points in individual weapon lines.

By the time you can use these reloading is free for the pistol

There are a lot more difference between firearms in the PnP, though. Such as attachments avaliable and types of ammo you can use.

Oh I know. Revolvers can only have certain mods and the such and other differences between the gun classes.

I have seen players ignore all of that and go straight for their favorite brand though. :-)

Isn't the range bugged on the display of weapons? It's possible the Ruger has more distance than the Colt.
