So... How's multiplayer coming along?
I seem to recall hearing that was going to be implemented some time.

I believe you're thinking of Shadowrun Online. That title is being done by Cliffhanger Productions.

In the Basic FAQ thread about the subject of multiplayer: "Multiplayer: Possibly somewhere down the road but not planned at this stage."

So multiplayer might be a thing one day, but it doesn't seem to be a priority or even a planned thing right now. I remember two of the devs basically saying the same thing in a gameplay video a few months before the game launched.

I wonder how they would even do multiplayer in a game like this. I guess something like XCOM's multiplayer...have everyone take a turn within a set time limit. Could be pretty cool if implemented well.

I would think more like... Premade campaign + other players control the members of your party. Like ... an actual tabletop game. Or the DM controls enemies and players control themselves. It seems like it'd be pretty simple and was something I really hoped would happen.

@RaccoonsFury

Yeah, I was thinking that the devs and mod makers would have to make custom campaigns strictly for multiplayer sessions. Something like making campaigns made up primarily of various Mr. Johnson runs.

A DM mode would also be pretty sweet, too; one player gets a set amount of time to place creatures and NPCs in a map, and four other players go through it. After set periods of time, the DM could gradually add more things throughout the map to keep the players on their toes. The more I think about it, the more I want multiplayer to happen!

I was hoping for something like an MMO; that would be really cool!

There's an MMO being made but it's by another company, Cliffhanger Productions. Those are the same guys who made Jagged Alliance Online, so I'm not too hopeful that it's going to be good...it'll probably wind up being a pay-to-win, microtransaction filled mess.

Ugh... =p

tabletop DM mode would be pretty sweet or even multiplayer tabletop would be cool. but I dont see that happening as the scripting would be pretty heavy and also there would be the concern of piracy and ensuring all players had a legitamite copy of the game.

where additional money can be made, complications will always arise =/

I don't see why piracy would prevent a multiplayer mode. It's not like you can't play a cracked version of the game now, and piracy doesn't stop other games from featuring an online mode. There would probably need to be substainial programming changes done though, depending on how they would approach multiplayer.

I honestly think the reason why there is no multiplayer mode in the game now is that they haven't figured out a good way to implement it. I remember seeing a gameplay video a couple of months before launch where a dev said they were still looking into how to incorporate the Matrix into the game. Saying that they hadn't figured out a major part of the game just a couple of months away from launch made me slightly worried.

If it took them that long to figure out such an important part of the game, I think adding in a feature that they have never had any real plans on adding will take time...if it gets added at all!
