Original Link: http://www.shacknews.com/article/82091/shadowrun-returns-berlin-dlc-becomes-shadowrun-dragonfall

TL;DR Version:

1. Dragonfall will add a new "save anywhere" feature, which will retroactively be added to the original Shadowrun Returns "Dead Man's Switch" campaign.

2. Shadowrun: Dragonfall will be available as a standalone expansion for $14.99

Logical Response: WTF?????????? SAVE ANYWHERE DLC???

Full Article:

"HareBrained Schemes' Kickstarter success, Shadowrun Returns, was originally slated to receive a round of DLC back in October, but was delayed to become a full-length campaign. The studio has now pulled the curtain back on the beefed-up Berlin expansion, calling it Shadowrun: Dragonfall.

Shadowrun: Dragonfall ventures further into the magic-infused world of 2054, where the threat of a long-forgotten event from the past is poised to threaten Berlin. Berlin promises to feature new hi-res locales, along with a new cast of characters, new weapons, cyberware, and magical enemies.

Dragonfall will add a new "save anywhere" feature, which will retroactively be added to the original Shadowrun Returns "Dead Man's Switch" campaign. It will also feature new changes to the game editor, including all of the expansion's new assets and an updated scripting system that allows for additional options for custom conversations.

Shadowrun: Dragonfall will be available as a standalone expansion for $14.99 or can be purchased with the original Shadowrun Returns game for $24.99. Dragonfall will arrive on PC, Mac, and Linux in January, with iPad and Android tablet versions coming shortly thereafter."

YOU GOT $1,836,447
pledged of $400,000 goal

WHERE THE ♥♥♥♥ DID THE MONEY GO WHERE DID IT GO?????

I'm seeing this more and more with these little kickstarted games. They are pocketing WAAAY to much of the money they get. I feel like the excess funds they get should be locked until they make the base game with the base money they ask for, then released extra funding based on proposals as to protect the users who whole heartedly kickstart this crap.

I can see how "Dragonfall will add a new "save anywhere" feature, which will retroactively be added to the original Shadowrun Returns "Dead Man's Switch" campaign." can be interpreted as "save anywhere DLC" but I would be very suprised if this feature wasn't patched into the original game free of charge. I think that's what they meant but the amount of confusion justifies some clarification.

I think it's funny that they feel DLC for Shadowrun Returns is worth $15. If I knew then what I know now I would have waited for the $5 sale. Dragonfall will be a "less than $5" purchase for me when it hits the bargain bin.

"It will be patched for Dead Man's Switch when Dragonfall is released and will not cost any additional money."

Also, I think they pretty much admitted they sold it very short with the original goal. That DLC is free for backers, btw.

Just curious how long it took you to figure out this answer. I wonder if it took you less time to look up the answer than it took OP to freak out and type his inital comment.
My bet is yes, and for that I salute you as I drink this beer.

The article is very clear, you just have terrible reading comprehension.

@OP

Just on the 400K. The original plan for Shadowrun Returns was to have simple top down view.
Only after they collected quite above 400K they decided to make the isometric view.
So quite some money was spend on the additonal art needed.

Also don't forget all the T-Shirts and goodies! They all get financed from the Kickstarter money as well.

For the limited budget they had, it's a great game. And it gave us an editor, and some people have made some amazing content.
On top of that, they keepimproving the game.

This "with this amount of money you should be able to give us that" mentality only shows how little people knew about game development... Do you honestly think that's how things work in this industry? :/
Junkhead Nov 22, 2013 @ 10:29pm
That goes both ways. High budget production has also distorted people's ideas as to how much a qualtiy game REALLY costs to make. Games have been made with NO MONEY that have better stories and gameplay. Games made by a couple people that offer more entertainment and content. The list can go on and on.

The fact of the matter is Harebrained had over a million dollars. Did they need to hire over 35 people and crank out this game in less than a year? They had a new game on the cutting board before this one, the one that made them ALL THE MONEY, even had a chance to breathe. They had their money and set their sights somewhere beyond the game that put them on the map. It's obvious the funds were not used wisely.

Well, instantly as I knew about it beforehand. Still, I don't think it would have been so hard to find despite the uninformative title. Definitely would take less time to type that rant, unless it's copy pasted. Looks a bit like the other "where did the money go" rants.

wow save anywhere you want and 15 bucks for that amzing dlc! WTF!?!?! are you serious, still waiting for language patch and come around so a expensive dlc I think they just kidding or? what happen to all the money they get? shame on you HBS
MagicElmo Nov 23, 2013 @ 4:24pm
@Junkhead

Yes, it goes both ways. So if I have loads of examples of more expensive games been worse than Shadowrun Returns and you the other way around, it means that the game isn't all that bad. ;)

The reason, why they brought out the game this fast (took them over a year though) was because they promised it to the backers (was even delayed by a few month).
Can't say I agree that the funds were not used wisely. I'm having a blast with this game.
Could the money have been used better, probably yes, sure. But at least they are much better than the whole Double Fine disaster.
The only thing I don't understand. What other HBS game are you talking about?

I think he's talking probably talking about Golem Arcana[golemarcana.com].

BTW, does anyone else find it funny that the contact URL listed on the SR:R Kickstarter is golemarcana.com instead of harebrained-schemes.com?
Amatsuki Nov 23, 2013 @ 10:14pm
For those of us who bought the steam version do we get Berlin with our original purchase?
MagicElmo Nov 24, 2013 @ 12:06am
@Amatsuki
No, only the Kickstarter Backers get Berlin free I'm afraid.
You'll have to pay for Berlin.

@blblackman
Ah yeah, thanks. So when Junkhead said "ALL THE MONEY" he meant it ironic I guess.
I'd say they are just trying to push Golem Arcana. I can't see it be a great success though.
