Is the Linux version cancelled?
I don't see any mention of it anywhere. Was there an announcement or did they just pull it silently?

It was never planned to be released alongside the Windows version.

Did you hear any news about it?

I believe the SteamOS version will be worked on largely after the initial release - the OS itself still hasn't had a stable release and Valve still warn non-technical users away from it.

Nope, they aren't too concerned with it right now.

The SteamOS version isn't likely to be released until SteamOS v1.0 is released... and the SteamOS version is the Linux version.

As pez said, they are likely to start working on it more after the PC and console versions are released, but I don't know what kind of news we will be hearing about it.

Nobody has said it's been cancelled though.

I think they're just not in a hurry. It's not really looking good. :/

I'll say it again, nobody has said it's been cancelled.

It is intended to be a SteamOS title, which is a Linux OS. It won't be released for SteamOS until SteamOS is stable enough that at least moderately adept PC users are willing to install it.

SteamOS is Steam Big Picture on Debian, it's not a magical program.

Doesn't matter. It's being released for SteamOS specifically. When SteamOS is more stable they will likely ramp up development for that version.

That's impossible. It's just branding.
pez2k 23 Feb, 2015 @ 9:41am
It's not just branding, it's a preset bundle of packages. It most likely will run on other distros, but it's specifically SteamOS that will be officially supported. It would be a nightmare to try to support the many, many different distros which may or may not have certain packages available to be able to claim generic Linux support, so it's just targeting one specific gaming-related distro.

aye any game thats steamOS compatible is by default debian family compatable, which means Debian, the entire *buntu family lineage (newer than version 12.04) & Linux MINT will all pretty much run it without complaint.

We want Project CARS on SteamOS and Linux
Please, Slighty Mad Studios, release Project CARS on SteamOS and Linux.

There is a SteamOS release planned, however it will be developed after the initial release on Windows, PS4 and XB1. I don't believe Valve have released a 'final' / non-beta version of the OS itself yet either.

Other sources say this game will come to Linux but Steam does not. Lack of Linux support does have a decent toll on my interest level.
