I feel the art style is more lazy than retro.
I may be alone on this but I really do hate the retro style in this game. I feel like it was unnecessary and doesn't really add much to the game. IMO this whole obsession with retro style is just a cop out for devs to avoid more expenses. Don't get me wrong so far I have enjoyed the game, but I feel like the devs were just being lazy when it came to art style.

Well, I think it is very atmospheric, distinctive and great at building an oppresive space and feeling. Personally I think it's amazing how this has been done with "simple" pixels, so kudos for them for the great work.
I really like this game retro graphics. It reminds me of D00M for some reason. Better graphics would have just made it just like all the other games and I usually look for a different game. I usually worry about gameplay than graphics.
Then why play the game......? Didn't you see the trailer?
I think it's a really interesting combination of pixelated graphics, modern effects, and Doom and Quake style aesthetics. It just works.
Is it really going for retro? Just has a pixelated style.
The shader effects are really nice. But seeing level 1 over and over again makes the textures kinda boring though...
I think it adds to the atmosphere, too. It messes with the limits of your imagination.

I did and bought it because it was on sale and I enjoy rogue likes. The choice of style is my only large complant about the game.
Then you should've thought about it before you bought it...
It is fairly ugly, but also kinda charming. The way stuff you can't see is blocked off and visual artifacts do it for me.
It is a game with a 2 man dev crew that only recently got publisher support. Yeah, they had to avoid more expenses to finish it in a reasonable amount of time.
Also, I wouldn't call it retro, like I wouldn't call Hotline Miami retro. It's pixel art, fast, cheap and often neat for the price way to do visuals. They wouldn't throw in distortion effects, 3D and these audio effects if they were going for retro feel.
What bothered me about it is that it's intentionally distorted. Games with very low-res graphics can still look clean in spite of being chunky, like Hotline Miami, but that's not the case in Teleglitch. It's like every pixel is excessively aliased, which I guess is part of the aesthetic but it just looks like it's ugly for the sake of being ugly.
It's probably because of the zoom and the smooth movement of the cam. The real graphics are not pixelated and distorted like that, it's all zoomed in as hell.
Well, everyone is entitled to have its own opinion, i personally find the art style very unique and refreshing, and i think this is very important nowadays. As long as the playablility is not affected, which is not, I really apreciate innovation.
I like the GFX Style of Teleglitch really much. At my first Gameplay i think: wow, man, gamplay like an unreleased C65 Game! i luv it
I like the art style, and as you progress through the game (which takes practice) the environments become more diverse, and the later enemies definitely look pretty awesome.
