framerate drops on gtx 970?

I have no idea what the problem is here, I keep getting huge framerate drops for seemingly no reason even though I have more than enough power to run the game.
anyone else have this happen?

minelayers are the worst when it comes to this, once they pop in the framerate absolutely tanks, probably into the 10s
cpu is an i5 6500

Yeah, same here, also with a GTX 970 and an i5 4670.
I encountered the same problem with the minelayers, I guess there's something really intense going on with them, but it doesn't really look like it, I only saw a few explosions.
