I miss this game
I'll still log on every now and again (on the Ragnarok server FYI) but I miss the grand ol' glory days of FFXI. I really hope that the new expansion gives this game a shot in the arm!

Here's hoping!

it'll need re-release on platforms it currently doesn't have a foothold to take off again, unfortunately expansions generally cater to the elitists.

They're making a new release on X360 and PC, stateside. I think it's PConly in Europe? That seems kinda lame. Japan gets a PS2 disc but I'm sure this will be for the last time since even in Japan they finally stopped making new PS2 consoles just recently.
little late to the party its been on 360 for awhile now

Not "new release on X360" as in first time new to XBox 360, but as in a new version of FFXI is going on sale for XBox 360 and will have the base game plus all five expansions ( ) as well as an expansion-only disc going on sale for XBox 360 ( )

Oh god,i miss this game so much! I played for several years quite a long time ago. Joined again probably a year ago,was told to "skip" all the leveling in party and shoot for Abbyssea, which i did. Got like 20 levels in a couple hours. But that wasn't fun to me,there was no reward in that,so i quit again. I had a Monk back in the day that i got to level 54 which my level 74 BLM got money for. I really miss my monk/war. But no one was leveling like the old days. Nobody liked the grind anymore. I'm so sad
Chrisn566, 'I Totally Miss' the old ways in the old days of the grinding in all the multiple area's to go to, made the areas have even more of a reason to go to or visit even. I truly do miss that old set-up party style. My 2nd PS2 hard drive went out on me with ffxi back in october to beginning of November and pc version of steam logon SE security section was to screwed and non-existing to get past it and logon to ffxi-(steam) on my pc, did all you could to get a fix on it, none worked. I am still out of the game and seriously missing the game but I am looking to try out FFXIV with the Collectors Edition in game items.

I miss the community.
Back in Pandy there was the whole "Sky deal" going on, which basically avoided drama on one end but created it in another. Farming sky items kept being a challenge against japanese LS's and all that. It was still fun though.

One thing I really miss, besides Pandy itself ofc, is going on Dynamis. I had almost full BLM and RDM gear from Dynamis. That was something at the time!

Then the economy went to♥♥♥♥♥♥because of all the gilfarmers and RMT services and whatnot. Then clean-up efforts started iirc. Some N/A players got the boot altogether with the alleged rmts. Game accounts started going for sale, some hacked, others by the actual owner. It seemed too dehumanized.

I quit around then. I quit mainly because other good people quit. Great social linkshells just disappeared in a matter of days. I also just needed that "move on" to happen. The game had become quite a bad habit at that point. This was back in 2007.

I do miss the game from time to time, even to this day. I played other FF "offline" (lol) games for a while to sort of "keep the pace" with things, but it wasn't the same ofc. I still game just not on that scale. I doubt FFXI will get that "shot in the arm". That should've happened years back, to keep it going. Plus the entire novelty factor is gone. It won't be the same. I sure do miss my old LS though.

I remember playing this so long ago, i've been playing it on and off for 8-10 years. The community was the best part about the game! I also enjoyed the events and hanging out in juno. This game is on its way to its death bed. Either way all good things must pass, and this game will always be in my memory :)

<-Misses the in-game music too.

It's not dead yet, so it's still worth keeping a character active and playing, even if most of your playing these days is just fooling around on the test server.

Mmm... yeah I see your point.. and to an extent I agree.

Here's how I see it though: In principle, I could not and would not pay arpund $15 a month for something that isn't good. FFXI was good, but it's not as good anymore.

I guess S.Enix saw this game as its golden goose then had the bad luck of having to watch said goose slowly step down from the limelight to more prepared games like WoW and to revamped old-time MMOs.

So there should be a silver lining, like you say. I agree. And to an extent I would pay the $15 again if I saw that it was good enough. I'm still subscribed to the monthly newsletter. It's just... mmm... I think my better judgment tells me not to engage in this game anymore. As the greatness of the game itself runs on low, so does the greatness of the game's online community. That to me is crossing the line, and it's why I'd prefer to keep my money and the memories.

I do hope this can be turned around, though. Just the other day an ex-FFXI mate told me he and his girlfriend are now into FFXIV, and invited me to join. So, I dunno. He also told me he kept his old FFXI character. So there's that.

We'll see I suppose.

I see XI as worth $13 a month, for certain. I don't keep my mules actively regularly though.

Nostalgia is not worth a monthly payment. Time to make some new memories in XIV.
