From the developer
Hello everyone! I'm the developer, I've just realised this forums rather full of people claiming I've run off with all the money and died, no doubt from laughing so hard at my own deviousness.

So first, an apology for my poor communication skills. I've been rather busy lately starting up a business, and I do now have a team together. Hiring skilled game developers is not something you can do with just a quick ad in the local paper.

While I would like to be able to always release a steady stream of smaller updates, sometimes big changes cause a big upheaval and dismantling of the game leaving it un-playable until the work is finished, so I can't release updates during these periods.

But you should all know I have never made any guarantees about speed of development. I guarantee I will finish the game, and I guarantee it will be awesome, but don't go expecting it all to be finished in just a few months, even with a team. Just sit back, enjoy the ride, go away and come back again. Rushed development is the ruiner of many AAA games.

The next update will be about a week. The major feature is the gear and character overhaul, and I know a lot of people are expressing that there's other things they feel are more important, so I invite you guys now to let me know your priorities and I'll work on them next:

Walls
Armour crafting
Any other features? Any fixes to base workings/production?
Any particular bugs you feel are important?

Shop counters are already done, and sound is already being worked on, so don't suggest those.

Let me know here and I'll get it all looked at next. Don't let the thread descend into arguments though or I'll just skim through and probably miss things.

Yeah. Thanks for a "state of the game / development" update. And yes, this will be awesome. :)

It's great to hear Chris again. Personally i don't really mind what is coming before and after. Maybe i'd love to have the rest of the stats, to keep players busy in training while waiting for updates. But i guess it might be going within updates themselves. Just... Chris, no guns, please, no, don't even consider it. The "dismemberment / prothesis" thing would be just the most awesome thing in gaming history so please keep going with it.

There won't be guns, but there will be crossbows, and possibly single shot spear guns.

right now in my opinion i would i like the char overhaul and gear, but next i would really like walls, making a settlement with no ability to funnel bandits etc to one location is very irritating cause they always go for my workers :( and also i've noticed that bandits etc spawn IN my settlement instead of walking to my settlement, if its a event to spawn them in a settlement please have them spawn outside settlements, not smack dab in the middle X_X but anyways thanks so much for making a great game looking forward to it finishing!!!

EDIT

Also if you do bring in crossbows etc you have to bring in shields, and maybe add formations? for instance a shieldwall formation which brings your squad's shield users to the front and holds the shields to the front to block any ranged fire. just a thought :)

I would love for you to fix technology speed. Your last update didn't increase actual tech speed, just the ticker speed.

Is there maybe gonna be a feature where you can "categorize" your troops? :) Would make easier to manage your "warriors", "traders", "workers" and so on. :3 Just a suggestion, I find it rather awkward to always find the one specific troop to do a certain task out of them all. ^^

Sorry if I explained it weirdly... :'D

What do you mean by fix technology speed? I've fixed the ETA bug in the progress window if thats what you mean.
Captain Deathbeard  [developer] Jun 25, 2013 @ 7:33am
Yes, eventually there will be a window where you can categorise your dudes into separate squads

Yes, the ETA bug. Will technology now increase in speed with extra people?

Oh, I just remembered that there is a small bug with fastest speed. Units take more time to move (or slower respond) and is unable to get past some some obstacles such as a door ( walking back and forth for a while). I think it is thread unable to calculate on time (if you are using thread which i believe you do).

I think the biggest concern was the lack of communication. Maybe it sounds like we're spoiled, but a lot of the Greenlight projects give updates (not always content) with much greater frequency. I honestly don't think it takes much to log in for 10-15 minutes and give people some insight into what's been going on. The amount of time it takes is more than justified when you consider how many upset people are just looking for any sign that progress is being made.

As for what to do next, I think legit content is more important than graphics or optimization. Give people more things to play with. Work on weapons, buildings, technology, smithing options, etc.; stuff we can really use to make this a sandbox.
