of crashing on start, and black screens of life?!

So I bought the game today, and on first run it crashed on start.

Well, now i know alright that as long as I have a 4:3 aspect ratio screen resolution then the game can start up without crashing, but will only show a black screen of life(in other words you can hear the music, and clicking there's sounds in response, but the screen remains black), and having googled and found a lot of people having same problems I'm left wondering if within those 3-4 years now since the release of the game, might anybody have found some fix?

anything what so ever..?

...or should I just demand my money back? It may only be 5€ but that too is good money and will get me at least a couple a good meals damn it. which is a whole lot more than what I'm getting from this game. :/

I think I found it.
If, by chance, you run a dual-core processor, It probably doesn't know which core to use or some such. after booting the game, find the switchable graphics configuration. I can find it by right-clicking the desktop. gyromancer should hopefully be under the recent app list. set it to high performance, and boot the game again.

I think you mean switchable graphics chips, one for power saving the other for heavy lifting, nothing to-do with cpu core count however. ;)

Alas no I do not have switchable graphics, however, I am using a 13" macbook, and the bigger ones all do have switchable graphics solutions, this one however only has intel HD4000, an ok mid-class graphics chip, plays skyrim and deus ex quite fine here, and yet, something must be wrong with either the intel graphics driver(odd that the problem doesn't appear else where though, then) or with the game...

Shame if later, 'cause it's obvious from the looks of it, the game never gets patched.

So no hope of playing it on this lappy, perhaps on my desktop back home in another EU state... ugh, downsides to working out of state... :'(

Oh, well... will see if I can find some way to report this bug to intel.

windows7 64bit quick fix right after installing:
1) set desktop resolution (like 800x600)
2) start game
3) go to options and set display to 4:3
4) quit game
5) restore original desktop resolution

now at least you can play in window mode"

Worked perfectly for me, thought it's a little annoying that it won't work in fullscreen. At least I can play it on my laptop, that's good enough for me.

nope, I definitely tried that back then, but it didn't work for my laptop, eh, screw it, I got it to run on my desktop and didn't even like the game much becaused of consolitis...

Mine, crashes before the 1st battle in story mode and sometimes during tutorial battle

I tryed to switch desktop resolution at the minimum (800x600) but when i launch the game it still not work. I can only hear sounds but the black screen is still there..
