Thus, the vast majority of the story is contained in the messages you can decrypt. (If you get really into it, you can actually translate the messages by building your own dictionary- the various characters correspond to specific english letters.)
Some bits of the story are contained in the Sotsdex Monster section (the monster descriptions you unlock once killing a single type of a given monster) while others in the various item descriptions.
Messages you decrypt (and the Sotsdex in general) persists for all your playthroughs.
If this doesn't sound like your thing, than I'd look else where. *Legends of Dungeons is a much better game in the price range.
This game isn't bad, just realize it's pure dungeon crawl, nothing else. I'd say for 2.50, try it if it sounds like a game you'd want to play.
*At the base price of 9.99.
Yeah, there's been a tiny nagging in the back of my head that I might get sick of this game after a while, but I figure at 2.50 it's worth a shot at least. Especially since I really liked the demo.
Legend of Dungeon looks fun as well. Though it does look like a game I'll have to play with friends if I hope to stand a chance of getting anywhere.
Thank you for the advice!
Oooh, this is perfect. Thank you very much!
I definitely see where you're coming from and I have to agree. I hadn't thought of it like that when I made this thread. I've only recently gotten into these roguelike, replayable games, so the thought of seeing a lot of story everywhere every time you play hadn't occured to me (and now that it has, it sounds extremely wearying). Thank you for that perspective!
Nothing's wrong "IMO" with a game being story lite, I prefer it that way (to an extent). I get sick of feeling indepted at the start of every game I play (Damned dragons).
I must admit, I quickly felt like I didn't have much reason to keep going in this game. 4 or 5 hours of play time, and I'm not sure I'd be willing to start over, random levels or not. I just don't feel like the game has anything new to offer once you've seen a few levels.
That isn't always a bad thing, but, for me, the depth isn't there. I still say it's worth trying for 2.50, but not 9.99.
* Lord Gek has a good point about thinking of these types of games as a single player board game.
