Steam keeps reinstalling dependencies
Steam seems to have an issue where it is unable to detemine if dependencies have been installed. To correct this problem navigate to your 'Sword of the Stars: The Pit' directory (usually 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Pit') and then delete the '_CommonRedist' directory found within.

Did the game work before? Because this is meant just to stop it trying to install everything again once it works already. the dependencies still needs to be installed successfully the first time.

Error logs show:

Product: Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 4.0 Refresh -- Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Pit\_CommonRedist\XNA\4.0\xnafx40_redist.1.msi

Download the Microsoft XNA from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20914

Take the xnafx40_redist.msi and copy it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Pit\_CommonRedist\XNA\4.0 . Run it once and you should never see the install error again.

You guys might want to look at the copy of XNA you are providing, it appears to be corrupted in some fashion.

The XNA installer is provided directly by Steam.

Might want to bring it up to Steam support then.

I had this problem recently, what worked for me was hitting the install steam button at the top then when it was open i removed it from my computer and re-installed it and it worked like a charm

You can also just open appmanifest_233700.acf (You'll note it's the right one if the directory points to common\the pit) and remove the 5 lines for install scripts which will also stop the launcher trying to find the files and potentially erroring. Else on an update also it can redownload those files and cause the same annoyance anyway. YMMV either way.

works for me, thanks

Is there a .vdf file in the main folder?
Not sure, I may already have deleted mine long ago.
If there is, delete that, and Steam should stop trying to reinstall the redistributions.

Sorry if that was totally unhelpful (and stupid, for that matter)

With most games, however, this should fix that annoying issue.
(Confirmed with several other games, btw)
