Tips & tricks thread
I thought it'd be nice to have a nifty tips & tricks thread dedicated to help other new players to get further in the alien facility. I've just bought the game and found these helpful so far:

1. Ctrl+X is rest. Useful after clearing a level and regaining hp to full.

2. You can turn your character with Ctrl+WASD without losing any Actionpoint.

3. Ctrl+G lets you select which items you want to pick up from a pile. Useful if you don't want to loot that darned Key and hack the doors for extra XP.

4. Trap doors can be destroyed by hitting/shooting them with manual targeting (arrow keys/mouse).

5. You can zoom out further by pressing Z

Please post more, I'll add them to the list.

Oh man thank you for the part 4 and 5. They're really helpful! I'll erase my one tip because part 4 makes it obsolete :)
You can hover your mouse over a trap door to see what it does (if you triggered it at least once), if you forgot.

Skills do not auto-level up (with use) past 45

Maximum level for stats \ skills is 100 (although you can get skills' level past 100 by using items like lockpick set)

Items won't take damage out of inventory, and picking up or dropping items can be done freely. When you spot an enemy that uses explosives, you can drop your grenades to avoid having them destroyed. The same applies for your spare weapons when fighting proteans.

Adaptoids frequently (but not always) mimic a type of container that won't usually appear in a room normally. Give scrutiny to weapon and ammo containers in cafeterias, for instance.

By default, you can move once freely during a combat round. Try to move once, turn using ALT, and fire to prolong the time it takes for an enemy to close into melee.
If you have the spare food and with mouse targeting making it much easier, you can target your blind spot with a melee weapon equip and they'll level up to 45 without being damaged. This also works with ranged weapons but they can still be damaged and would probably consume a lot of ammo.
The best way to find mimics is to move to a container, and without moving INTO the container, interact with it by pressing space. If the box asking you if you want to loot the container doesn't pop up, that means the container is actually an enemy. So long as you don't accidentally try to move onto the same space as the Adaptoid, it won't attack. This makes it possible to take a few steps back, then manually aim at the 'container' and fire, giving you an advantage.

On most difficulties, it's quite possible to move through the first few floors using only your knife as either the scout or engineer. It's a good idea to try to do so for as long as you can: not only does it save valuable ammunition for what's ahead, but it also builds up a melee skill. When you run completely out of bullets, having something that doesn't need to reload is invaluable.

Mechanical enemies, other than scavenger bots, tend to stop following you if you exit the room they are in and get out of their line of sight. I've abused this fact to pick off a couple enemies, run around the corner, ctrl-x, then return with full health. Though, it should be noted that if there are other enemies roaming around that this can backfire.

While healing using a medkit takes a turn, opening you to attack as you try to heal, most healing items are used instantly. If you find yourself in a bad situation, using banages to boost your health before the next hit can be a lifesaver. The field surgery kit is fantastic for this, as it heals for a lot, and still allows you to attack that turn.

If you happen to get diseased, locking yourself into a room and resting using crtl-x seems to almost always clear it up. Whereas walking around looking for a cure almost always leads to it progressing and killing your character.

You get 2 "free" attempts on lockpicking a door, on third fail a door will shut itself completly and possibly sound the alarm (but you can still break it down).
Big acid blobs are slow, close all other doors to an empty room and run to a corner. When the blob gets close run around it (take care not to end a turn adjacent) and close the door behind you. This saves a lot of ammo.

But you don't get the loot.

I get more exotic protiens/mitochondira/acid sacks/primordial soups than I have a use for. They're worth killing on Easy, but on Normal? They're just ammo sponges. I just ran floor 17 with like 5 of those fat bastards, it'd have soaked up almost 150 rounds of auto pistol ammo to clear them. 8x5 + 6x10 + 4x20 = 140 .
Simple, yet effective: When you level, you heal. So if you wait until you're low on health, this is a free in-combat heal. Doesn't lose you xp either.
Probably common knowledge :

You can bash lab benches that you used 3 times into being broken, repair them and then use them again.

Once you trigger a door trap, you can mouse over any future traps of the same color for its description.

You can melee down doors to remove traps

You can rechargeable items with energy cells.

Didn't know this. Thanks.
When you find a crafting lab, always use it until it's broken. Even when you don't have anything to craft. This will give you additional experience points and a lot of computer skills points.

Preferably use medkits when you're not in an immediate combat situation, it's less reliable because it takes away a turn and might even fail. Nonomedes or healing patches are better during combat, safe until an emergency situation arrives.

Use the three shot ability of the rifle, it's really good in situations where you are overwhelmed by a lot of smaller enemies, you can effectively kill more enemies in a turn.

Also use the melee as often as you can, except for those squishy blobs, they damage everything. Ammo can be quite scarce, usually I shoot enemies until they are heavily wounded/damaged and then I finish them with melee

If an enemy is heavily wounded or damaged, blood drops and sparks will appear on the enemy, thus showing you that it's near death. This helps out greatly coordinating attacks and making priorities, also heavily wounded enemies have the habit of reatreating, although this does not apply on every enemy.
Every time you level, the skills that you've used prior to that level-up are the ones that cost only 1 skill point. This may seem obvious, I'm sure, to some of you. but I didn't realize it when I first started playing. It just suddenly dawned on me at some later point. So even if your skills are 45+, if it's a skill that you intend to add points to, make sure that you use it at least once prior to leveling up, if at all possible.

Don't waste lockpicks on doors, because, worst case, you can always destroy them. Save them for hard-to-open locked containers.
