5. Ctrl+G lets you select which items you want to pick up from a Pile. Usefull if you dont want to loot that darned Key and hack the doors for extra XP
6. You can zoom out further by pressing Z (maybe well known, but it took me like 40 hours ingame till i realized there is a Zoom key...)
Oh man thank you for the part 4 and 5. They're really helpful! I'll erase my one tip because part 4 makes it obsolete :)
Skills do not auto-level up (with use) past 45
Maximum level for stats \ skills is 100 (although you can get skills' level past 100 by using items like lockpick set)
Adaptoids frequently (but not always) mimic a type of container that won't usually appear in a room normally. Give scrutiny to weapon and ammo containers in cafeterias, for instance.
By default, you can move once freely during a combat round. Try to move once, turn using ALT, and fire to prolong the time it takes for an enemy to close into melee.
On most difficulties, it's quite possible to move through the first few floors using only your knife as either the scout or engineer. It's a good idea to try to do so for as long as you can: not only does it save valuable ammunition for what's ahead, but it also builds up a melee skill. When you run completely out of bullets, having something that doesn't need to reload is invaluable.
Mechanical enemies, other than scavenger bots, tend to stop following you if you exit the room they are in and get out of their line of sight. I've abused this fact to pick off a couple enemies, run around the corner, ctrl-x, then return with full health. Though, it should be noted that if there are other enemies roaming around that this can backfire.
While healing using a medkit takes a turn, opening you to attack as you try to heal, most healing items are used instantly. If you find yourself in a bad situation, using banages to boost your health before the next hit can be a lifesaver. The field surgery kit is fantastic for this, as it heals for a lot, and still allows you to attack that turn.
If you happen to get diseased, locking yourself into a room and resting using crtl-x seems to almost always clear it up. Whereas walking around looking for a cure almost always leads to it progressing and killing your character.
But you don't get the loot.
I get more exotic protiens/mitochondira/acid sacks/primordial soups than I have a use for. They're worth killing on Easy, but on Normal? They're just ammo sponges. I just ran floor 17 with like 5 of those fat bastards, it'd have soaked up almost 150 rounds of auto pistol ammo to clear them. 8x5 + 6x10 + 4x20 = 140 .
You can bash lab benches that you used 3 times into being broken, repair them and then use them again.
Once you trigger a door trap, you can mouse over any future traps of the same color for its description.
You can melee down doors to remove traps
You can rechargeable items with energy cells.
Didn't know this. Thanks.
Preferably use medkits when you're not in an immediate combat situation, it's less reliable because it takes away a turn and might even fail. Nonomedes or healing patches are better during combat, safe until an emergency situation arrives.
Use the three shot ability of the rifle, it's really good in situations where you are overwhelmed by a lot of smaller enemies, you can effectively kill more enemies in a turn.
Also use the melee as often as you can, except for those squishy blobs, they damage everything. Ammo can be quite scarce, usually I shoot enemies until they are heavily wounded/damaged and then I finish them with melee
If an enemy is heavily wounded or damaged, blood drops and sparks will appear on the enemy, thus showing you that it's near death. This helps out greatly coordinating attacks and making priorities, also heavily wounded enemies have the habit of reatreating, although this does not apply on every enemy.
Don't waste lockpicks on doors, because, worst case, you can always destroy them. Save them for hard-to-open locked containers.
