How dangerous are Hiver Queens?
I ran across one of these on level 21. I'm fairly well equipped (auto shotgun, decent armor) and I'm wondering if I farm the Queen for hiver workers and cheese. She has a laser that does moderate damage but is not all that scary.

However it hasn't spawned any hiver workers yet. How long do you have to wait before one spawns?

Well, she has 3 accurate Laser Rifles, so I'd classify her as very dangerous, Destroy the head and arms first, and be careful to not use an AOE attack which takes out the body.

I farm every queen I come across, when I have enough food to play the waiting game, and especially when I have Metabolic Control.

How often they spawn seems to be random. Sometimes I'll have two spawn within a dozen turns of each other, but then the entirety of Metabolic Control will go by before I see another. Then there's the issue of a worker not even dropping the cheese, which is something that has happened to me. So the farming is not something you do, unless your food situation is already bad.

I tell myself that running in back and front of the door helps make them spawn, but that probably isn't true.

Cool, thanks for the tips. :) So is the Queen defenseless, aside from spawning Hivers once you destroy the head and arms?

If so, it seems you could farm the Queen as long as you want if she produces enough cheese that you break even on food.

One of the patch notes mentioned a cap on Hiver Workers spawned had been added. Originally, the Queen would produce infinite workers.

She is also a good source of Chitin if you havne't made your Chitin Armor yet.

I took down the arms and head with an auto rifle and then used a recharge station in the same room and did a lap around the level looking for medical supplies (each hit from the Queen does about 30 damage without armor on easy). No Hivers spawned so maybe the cap was reached.

The level seems about clear of enemies so maybe that's another factor. I think I ran across one Hiver earlier in the level but that was about all. If the Queen isn't going to produce anything else, I guess I should just finish it off for the XP instead of waiting around...

I've come across quite a few but none have spawned workers nor dropped any loot and give me only 3xp, 1 for each limb and 1 for the head. I was wondering what the point of them was. I tend to just ignore them now.
