The Great Escape
How do you/can you stop the little s*ds making tunnels? I'm having to do a shakdown everyday to stop escapes! Will metal cell floors or any other floor make a differance?

They can, actually, it just takes them much longer.

wow i did not know

Metal detectors at the entrances to any rooms they can get digging tools from.

if you put metal detectors at the entrances to every room and set the "punishment" for contraband (which is what a metal spoon stolen from the kitchen {which would be used for digging} is ) setting the punishment as search cell and prisoner they wont be able to escape at all... occasionally you will find a tunnel but it wont go anywhere, as long as your premeter wall is far enough away from the cells... I havent had a tuneling escape in over 50 game years using that process

Best spot for the metal detectors is by the opening to the cell blocks so they get searched before they walked in.

Keeping them happy (so they don´t have to many reasons to escape) and finding their tools before they are able to keep them for too long (by one or more metal detectors and occasional nightly shakedowns) is essential ... also, having your last wall/fence between prison and freedom at a rather large distance from the cell blocks might discourage them from tunneling.

Aside from this, it is advisable to only use the small pipes for the prisoners toilets.
The large ones are said to increase the speed with which the prisoners can tunnel

Yes, you want a piping setup like this.

Large Pipes probably do actually speed up tunneling because the work has already been done for them. So if you have large pipes on the outer-side of your Cells, they will exploit that.

My Canteens have but one double door with 2 metel detectors. My workshops also have one double door with detectors. I have never experienced a tunnel problem. The cells reserved for high risk prisoners have metal floors. Metal detectors at every place that uses tools and giving the prisoners only one door to exit catches them everytime.

Control the spoons, and you control the tunnels.

Toilet + showerhead in all your cells?

Since you have many stuff connected to small pipes, you'll might be able to tell me if there is a length limit or a "item linked to" limit for small pipes?
Otherwise, why not putting only small pipes? lol

Shower in cell works great. Saves time in morning, shower-eat.

As far as I understand it, if you use only small pipes, you run into pressure issues.

IIRC you can lay down a connection of 38 small pipes until you run into pressure problems (which simply consist of water running until the 38th pipe tile and no further)

Yeah. Toilet and Shower. It means I don't have to make any dedicated shower rooms and it saves on piping.

Small Pipes do have a length limit of 40 tiles. The flow will simply stop (inclusively) at the 40th tile and not continue. It doesn't have a limit to the number of things it can supply, at the moment. Large Pipes have a length limit of 764 tiles.

Although, as Proteus said, it's all about pressure. Pipes splitting off in different directions will alter the pressure in the forked pipes, reducing the pressure, and so, the length they can cope with.
