Armed Guards! How idiotic!!
As a loyal fan, I am seriously put off by the sight of seeing armed guards walking among the prison population. This goes against prison safety 101 and is highly unrealistic. Weapons are reserved for guards in towers and in places unreachable by prisoners. Why? Because some low life with noting to lose could attack a guard, take the gun, hostages, and cause a major issue. There is not a single prison in existence where you will see this happen.

This is so freaking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh get over it. It's a game, and you don't have to use them.

Keep them in your armory and only deploy them into the prison if all hell kicks off. Or don't use em at all.

See how easy that was to solve.

The armed guards have made my prison a blast.

:D pun intented.

There is also the fact that they do add to the risk factor (Thing at the top left that tells you how dangerous your prison is getting) of your prison. And the more you have, the more risk they add. They are not without their consequences. And as other have pointed out; they are optional. I only deploy 1 on the High Sec. block of my prison, and he is not "weapons free".

Don't put armed guards in the common areas then? It's that simple.

I know right, OP? Especially how the game gives you no choice whether to use them or not! It's not like you could choose not to use them and play the game the way it fits your own playstyle. Now THAT would be awesome!

Fan boys miss the point and blindly defend dev as always...what a shocker.

We've offered a solution to your problem, that solution being to actually go ahead and treat armed guards the way you would do in a real prison. So what are you still mad about?

Thats not the point.

Feel free to present your point to us then. Do you feel that assigning armed guards to areas that are accessible for inmates should be outright disallowed? Do you want the devs to implement a larger risk of an inmate attempting to disarm the guard? Come on, be constructive. It's fun!

Wow Peter. Seriously?

The point is all jails and prisons have strict rules about bringing firearms into population. Thats the point.

This game defies logic in this regard because some dev thought it would be cool. The response is "Dont use them". That's not the point or an excuse. Its akin to seeing the guards get jetpacks because the dev has a hairbrained idea...and someone says "Jet packs what?" to which countless fanboys say "I like jet packs. If you dont, dont use them".

Instead of the devs putting in time and effort on something closer to realism (say informants or gangs - some type of cat and mouse game within a game), we get armed guards carrying shotguns and pistols walking alone through population. Its arcadey. Its pedestrian. Its ill conceived. Its unrealistic. Its lazy.

Running a prison is a daunting task with numerous levels of complexity. Gangs to ID and disrupt, corrupt or abusive guards to find out about, hits on other inmates to discover and thwart, black markets, "keep separates", on and on and on. What we get here is a month of some hair-brained idea that does not exist.

I wont use this. But the devs cycles put into it boggle the mind especially since there are some really aweseome ideas put forth by many in countless previous posts that would bring more depth to the game beyong just building walls and setting meal times.

Realism/Game

HI op, please take a look at this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Operations_Response_Team
This is your real world equivalent to what the Armed guards are and do. No, having them walk around the common areas wouldn't be a realistic use of them. However that doesn't mean they don't have a place in a game like this. Personally I was kind of hoping they would have a bean bag option, as those can be a very effective way of subduing targets without resorting to lethal force. I believe if there is any legitimate concern with the addition of armed guards, it is that they
1. Do not cause prisoners to organize to effectively take them down
2. they do not have any non lethal weaponry, aside from their fists,
although I'm hoping these points will be addressed in the next update.

Have a great day. and Incarcerate safely!

A lot of prisons have armouries in them, even some in the UK do. The guards go to the armoury in the event of a riot, to defend the prison. You don't have to use them, but it is realistic.
