Report a translation problem
If your HD is having problems it gives you really easy, it gives you a green, Yellow, Red light type of graph of the SMart report, if something is RED - it is normally the issue (sometimes with SSD downloading the Utilitily from the manufacture of that drive can double check it) if nothing is red, you might want to lanch a admin command prompt and type Chkdsk /F and hit enter, and Y and reboot the PC (this is assuming the main C: drive is where the problem is of course) If you need more help I will Subscribe to this Discussion - or you may reach out and Pm me. :) thanks.
IT'S NOTHING TO DO WITH HARD DRIVE ECT...
I can download the 'Introversion' version and put it in my
steamapp/common/prisonarchitectfolder,
and it works fine but cannot install Steam version anymore.
errors go from: 'disk write error' 'locked file' 'no permission' etc...
Could some one from steam resolve issue????????
You probably have an overactive antivirus, nothing Steam can do against that. Disable your AV.
I run win7 pro 64 and I did stop my AV without success.
I had that game installed for a few years and played it from time to time with no problem until last update.
I am not the only one with this issue but from what I saw on the web there is no solution yet, only a lot of speculation and solutions which do not solve the issue.
May be for once Steam could try to do something.
PS: My hard drive is bran new and I scanned it with no errors.
I have already tried every possible solution around with no effect.
This problem has been around for a while and has not been solve yet.
Since 'Prison architect' last update, many have had this error.
Maybe it's one of those AV's that you can't really turn off. I don't know.
once you have this installed you can right click a folder and there will be a new option from the unlocker program, you can just unlock - but if you need to, you can unlock and delete the files needed. Note - this gives you great control over your operating system, so you can break it if you delete the wrong thing in windows directory for example you can nuke your OS. so becareful.
If you don't know what something is don't assume that it is snake oil, fake news, or something stupid. Do your research first please.

** I found a fix **
I had inadvertently enabled System Mechanic Pro's "System Shield" feature, which ultimately conflicted (of course) with my Norton Security. I uninstalled System Mechanic Pro entirely, then uninstalled Norton Security.
After restarting my PC, I reinstalled Norton Security, followed by System Mechanic Pro (without the System Shield feature). Prison Architect was then able to update without any problems.
I hope this helps.
No worries, I have. First of all iobit is considered malware by malwarebytes, their Unlocker is marked as a hacking tool by more than just a few established antivirus programs, Softonic is flooded with shiny download buttons tempting you to download something else rather than you'd expected and the list can go on. Snake oil galore.
Topic starter wants a good advice? Go get Bitdefender Free Antivirus. It's using one of the best av engines around the world, just stripped from all the extras and stuff you don't want anyway, like parental control and other nonsense which you do get when buying the complete package. It will still block web threats, runs background scans and checks the things you download. It wont bother you if it's not needed. And the best part of it: it knows Prison Architect isn't a virus so it won't lock the game files for no reason at all.
The Free edition is very lightweight, so it can also run on cheaper/older machines:

edit: lol that cnet link got blocked in my brower:
"Because of the following filter
||download.cnet.com^$document
Found in: uBlock filters – Badware risks"
Yea, cnet isn't what it used to be as well. Stay away from there, just like softonic.
Total AV is not the problem and for your info is far from being "crappy". So far it is the best I have used and this over the last 15 years.
I did uninstall and put an exception with no result.
The problem was "System Mechanic pro" which I was not using anymore but for some reasons was still active in some way. I uninstalled and 'voila', updated with no problem.
A lot of AV and shield programs are too heavy on your system, I used AVG for years but it has, like many others, become invasive and problematic.
I dumped 'Norton' a long time ago.
'Total AV' is light on your system , does a very good job and the price is not bad.
