How do prisoners smuggle stuff in?
According to my intel they go and pickup stuff outside near the perimeter wall than go back inside and hide the stuff. The thing is there is no door going there, and I dont see any prisoners going outside either. And if they do they get pulled back inside cuz all outdoors is staff area.

How does this work? Do contraband just spawn in their pockets and a random smuggle story gets made. I apreciate any help with this.

The dots are contraband that was found there and than smuggled inside, but in the other pic you can see all thoe areas are staff area with "NO ACCESS", and there is double wall, one perimiter and a fence after 10squares.

Everything pink and black on the top pic is staff area, wich is nearly everything besides cell, cafeteria, medbay, yard, common room and shower.

Had a similar problem, but somehow it stopped after having the outer perimeter bigger and "Staff only". I don't know what actually solved the problem then, but it seems to be possible to get this under control.
Contraband is thrown in by someone from outside the prison over the walls, the throw range is 10 tiles so make the outside permimiter large enough to not have anything thrown in.

Like I said, i have one perimiter wall aat the edge, after 10 squares or "meters" I have a fence, the space in-between is marked as staff only AND is "No access" due to no doors at all. Still they seem to get contraband from there.

For thrown distance, don't include the walls. So it's wall + 10 spaces + wall

it's showing you a vague direction the throw came from, not neccesarily the exact spot of pickup

Never build an area without a door access. Guards should be able to go everywhere to look for things

You, don't see prisoners going out there? yea, well you don't see prisoners anytime they are outside of view, fog of war doesn't let you see prisoners unless you have a guard or a camera (with a guard watching). That's an intentional part of the system, prisoners do things outside of your view all the time

Your picture doesn't actually look like the area is marked staff only, it would be black for staff only

Buildings (foundations) are a better preventive to thrown contraband than walls. If your outer "wall" is all buildings the "roof" effectively prevents thrown contraband, no need to worry about how close to the edge you are (as long as the building foundation is over 10 wide)

Prisoners can tunnel to get to places, another reason to have guards with access to everywhere, in particular dogs to look for tunnels

pink (passthrough) is not staff only unless you add both markers to the area

When taking screenshots, wait till day, that image is really hard to see

the pic was slightly older, but even when all areas are marked as staff they still go outside, even though there is only ONE way out with several doors and guards in the "airlock", so nobody is going out. Ima post a newer picture soon.

there is shows a prisoners went over the fence somehow.
This is whats making be believe items spawn in their pockets and a random story gets made from a possible smuggle route.

EDIT: The reason i removed the doors wass beacuse according to intel prisoners carried contraband through them somehow.

fences aren't walls and im pretty sure they can be climbed while the prisoner is outside of a guards view

for doors, prisoners can also steal keys, use them and than stash or drop the keys

they are pretty active outside of your view

I don't use fences, I use a double wall with airlocked entry and regular dog patrols, I have no thrown contraband problems

There is only one way into the prison wich is a long airlock with dog patrols, several standard guards, and metal detectors. No prisoners pass there but according to the intel they do. Its a staff area too so if they did theyd get shackled and escorted to their cell. from the looks of it the contraband system doesnt require the prisoner to actually go and pick the stuff up.

When watching the route of all contraband found ALL items came the same way, so I put up tons of CCTV cameras and guards the entire route and had the screen over, watching it an entire day with no holes at all and stuff still gets in. Its either bugged or a glitch. Or the contraband system is made so they dont have to go and pick them up manually and the route is just made up.

random people can indeed throw items over the walls into the prison (but this is not seen as happening, so it seems to spawn).

to stop this, make a moat: place a second wall (perimiter, regular or even just a fence), a few squares away from the perimiter wall, fully enclosed.
make the created corridor staff and access only.

now, passersby can still throw stuff over the wall, but it will end up in the moat, where noone will go unless they really have to.

They do anyways, they even walk through fences.
