I'm a somewhat avid puzzle game player. I haven't had much practice with the lateral thinking so this game took me longer because I would get stuck on certain puzzles. While challenging, I did enjoy the puzzles though only having the ability to select relevant items is almost like cheating since you know they must somehow interact together. For a summary of the pros and cons:
-There are some bugs with the character's movements. Especially when trying to transition between rooms. This can quickly become infuriating because you spend your time staring at the courser while slowly scanning the game screen to find an area that will let you say "Move to other room". It's really bad in Chapter 1 but be aware and push through it.
-One of the scenes in the other chapters are from a birds eye, which is great for an overview of the room but it's significantly harder to know where you should click to interact with people or items.
-There is one case with your inventory where you pick up an item and you must click it in your hand rather than access it from your inventory in order to use said item. While this only happens once, it is rather frustrating.
-There is not a smooth transition to the next chapter. You have select "New Game" and choose the next chapter. So if you haven't saved your progress in a different place so you can get OCD completion, it's a little irritating. And you don't really feel like you can play the whole story through.
But those are mostly my nitpicks. Now to the pros.
-The voices become really strong as you progress and they stay true to the character throughout the story.
-A lot of story with really strong character development available and if you just want to skip through the words, just keep clicking the left mouse button.
-The first two chapters end with really strong cliffhangers so I had to power through the early mornings and finish the game. Totally worth it and I loved the story.
-You can use what you learned from the previous investigations to tell the story of what happened. You get an achievement and it feels fun rubbing it in Legrand's face.
-There are pretty awesome twists to the story. I did not see most of them coming and it was really a nice, detailed and heart warming story.
-This is a slight spoiler but I won't share all the details. You do change what character you follow during the story. You don't control the change, the story does. This does give you a really nice opportunity to hear other people's views and you learn the full story with better details.
In summary; a really nice mystery game that is worth getting. Replay is kind of low but the story is really good and taking the time to figure out the puzzles on your own is worth it. If there was a continuation of any kind, I would definitely buy it.
