After updating Uplay and verifying this game on Steam (I also have the 50 missing files issue, as detailed in another thread on this very forum), I could finally start the game again, but now I get files locked... feel punished for buying this while pirates probably have less problems.
Seriously? I played for 15 minutes, but, despite getting to several checkpoints, I'm not allowed to save this progress?
That's messed up.
Try to check if Uplay has that cloud service enabled in the options menu and if so if the servers are accessible at the moment.
If it helps at all, there is a way to skip most of the intro cinematics; press "Enter" to pause the cinematic, then you have the option to press "Esc" to skip the cinematic. There are a couple separate cinematics so you'll have to do this two or three times, but it's better than having to sit through them all.
From Steam Discussions about Assassin’s Creed Unity (it can refer to all Uplay DRM game swith Uplay Cloud support and also other Uplay games maybe):
Turbid TG1:
'Can't synchronize my cloud saves.
I was in Sequence 6 and now I might have lost all of my progress.'
pyradius:
'That sucks, I had to turn off the cloud syncing myself earlier and had lost progress, losing 6 sequences would suck pretty badly. Here was the info I got from Ubisoft:
"The cloud servers check file information when syncing and will update to the latest used profile. This information is synced to the cloud upon closing your game. Unfortunately, there is no way to manually download a savegame file from the servers.
Unfortunately, if your save file is not available in-game, there is no way to recover the data. I recommend that you disable the cloud sync feature via the Uplay Client options to prevent any future issues.
I also recommend that you use a third-party game save manager such as GameSave Manager in case the issue reoccurs:
http://www.gamesave-manager.com/
We have forwarded similar instances up to our development teams for further review, and I apologize for any inconvenience."
He didn't tell me where the data is stored, but it might the the data inside:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames '
