Should I Beat Far Cry 3 Before Starting This?
Are they related at all? Or is Blood Dragon completely different?

Fortunately nope! FC3:BD is better IMO.
FC3 gets boring in the middle of playtime, but BD will keep throwing amazing quotes at you. Plus the graphics is exeptional.
I recommend to turn "IronSights toogle" on, it makes the game better by a giant bit.

Okay, thanks. I did get bored by FC3 mid-way through it, so I was thinking of starting this in the meantime, but didn't know if I would be missing anything important that Blood Dragon might refer back to.

and use the same game engine!!!

But I see both games as this:

"Far Cry 3" = a game that's more action-packed, serious, and story driven

"Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon" = a parody of all of the action movies from the 80's and early 90's, with tons of hilarious one-liners

Which is exactly the reason I bought it!

well anything with Michael Biehn in it is always a hoot (especially if spouting Duke Nukem-type one-liners)

I love all the amazing 1980's goodness of this game. Can't go wrong with Michael Biehn
